Gunther has his sights set on potential matches with some of WWE’s top stars.
“The Ring General” has been on a dominant run since he arrived on SmackDown in April 2022. He captured the Intercontinental Championship in June, and he has reigned supreme ever since. Throughout his title run, Gunther has defeated competitors like Ricochet, Rey Mysterio, Sheamus, and Shinsuke Nakamura.
In an interview with Nick Talbot of the San Antonio Express-News, Gunther was asked to name who else he wants to face. He noted that there are plenty of options, and he pointed to Finn Balor, Brock Lesnar, and John Cena. He also brought up Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns as two exciting possibilities.
“I think there’s a big selection to be honest. Some of the best wrestlers in the worlds are in WWE,” Gunther said. “I’m really bad at naming dream matches, but I always wanted to wrestle Finn Balor. AJ Styles will be a great match. Obviously, Brock Lesnar will be fantastic. At some point, if John Cena is ever possible, that would be great.
“Roman, obviously is there. Drew McIntyre is a match that I think could be very exciting for our audience. So, I think we have a lot of really good scenarios and possible matchups, exciting matchups for our fans.”
Speaking of Reigns, Gunther was asked whether he’d like to see his Imperium faction clash with “The Tribal Chief” and The Bloodline.
“Yeah, let’s go there,” Gunther said. “I think what they have going for themselves now with the group is really entertaining. It’s one of the best group stories I can recall in a very long time.”
Gunther retained the Intercontinental Championship against Braun Strowman on the January 13 episode of WWE SmackDown.
