Report: Update On WWE Sale Rumors, Stephanie McMahon’s Resignation

A new report shines some light on the rumored WWE sale that has garnered plenty of attention in the wrestling world and beyond.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, despite the frenzy of rumors that a sale had been agreed to, WWE is still in the process of “fielding suitors”. However, Sapp noted that Vince McMahon was said to have spoken with Saudi group members during his time away from the company.

As Sapp noted, several of the posts that reported a deal between WWE and Saudi Arabia have been deleted. Misinformation continues to spread, with some reports also suggesting that Disney and WWE have reached a deal, while others expect Comcast to emerge as the buyer. Again, as of this writing, none of these agreements have been confirmed.

In the report, Sapp wrote that anonymous contacts from Disney and Comcast indicated that they had heard of the rumors, and they doubted whether any major company would want to keep McMahon involved with WWE if that outcome was possible. As for the rumor that Shad and Tony Khan are in the pool of potential suitors, one source noted that they hadn’t heard of the interest, but it both made sense from a business perspective and helped the two men merely by being a part pf the conversation.

Sapp also addressed a report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, who wrote that Vince and Stephanie McMahon had issues working together. He cited sources at WWE headquarters who noted that Stephanie, who was usually composed, was “disheartened and frustrated” when her team was previously dismantled. Additionally, as Sapp pointed out, Stephanie and the WWE Board of Directors that agreed that Vince’s return was not in the company’s best interest, but the board substantially changed with multiple departures and the return of George Barrios and Michelle Wilson, alongside Vince’s own comeback.

Sapp also cited sources who indicated that, while it was reported that Stephanie and Triple H were opposed to a sale, sources indicated that they were willing to work towards the progression of one.

WreestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
