NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 drew record numbers.
On January 4, New Japan Pro-Wrestling held Wrestle Kingdom 17, and the star-studded show included Kenny Omega, Jay White, Kazuchika Okada, and many other stars. Omega battled IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay, and the show was headlined by Okada challenging White for the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Plus, many fans tuned in to the show due to the widely rumored appearance by Mercedes Varnado, formerly known as Sasha Banks. She ultimately made her buzzworthy debut at the event by attacking IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI.
NJPW subsequently announced that Wrestle Kingdom 17 drew a record 92,409 unique viewers for the NJPW World service.
