Tony Khan says he has a professional relationship with MJF.
Ahead of the third anniversary of AEW Dynamite, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan chatted with Variety about a number of topics. During the conversation, Khan addressed what his relationship with MJF is currently like.
“It’s very professional,” Khan said. “He’s been part of AEW from day one, and he’s one of the most important stars on our TV show. Whether you love MJF or love to hate MJF, I think he’s one of the wrestlers who’s connected with the audience in recent years and made himself a star. He’s also had the company behind him to help build him and support him. I think that he is the total package of everything it takes to be a successful pro wrestler. I think he has it all. He’s a really important part of AEW.”
It hasn’t been an easy year for AEW when it comes to the company’s top stars. From injuries, to MJF’s time away this summer, to the locker room brawl after All Out, Khan has had his hands full. Nevertheless, one of those situations was rectified at All Out when MJF returned and won the Casino Ladder match with an assist from Stokely Hathaway.
When speaking to Ariel Helwani last month, MJF noted that he did receive a major bump in pay without signing a contract extension. He stated, “I most certainly did with no contract extension. Because once again, love Tony Khan to death, you’re my BFF, but kinda got the man by the balls because I’m a draw and I’m only 26.”
