Malakai Black is taking some time to “recalibrate” himself.
Fightful Select previously reported that AEW talent had heard that Black had been conditionally released from AEW after he requested to be let go, but rumors continued to surround him. Black last competed for AEW All Out pay-per-view, where he, Brody King and Buddy Matthews lost to Sting, Darby Allin, and Miro. After the bout, as he made his way to the back, Black bowed and blew a kiss to he fans.
Black was in action at Prestige Wrestling Perseverance on September 17, and he discussed his status after the bout.
“I understand all of you have questions,” Black said. “What am I doing? Where am I going? Look, I understand and in due time, I will answer the majority of these questions. However, for the last 22 years of my life, I have never not once taken one step back and recalibrated my life and took a chance to look back all the stuff that I’ve done in-ring, but also the stuff I went through outside of the ring. I’ve never done that because I always had this attitude of like [horse blinders].
“I’ve done that for my entire professional career because I had this one attitude towards wrestling , which was you gotta think globally, not locally because if you think locally, you’re gonna get stuck at one place. That applies to everything, by the way. If you wanna branch out, you gotta not be worried about the little things. As cliche as that sounds, it’s what got me here in the United States. So for the 22 years that I’ve given my absolute everything, please allow me to take a few weeks, maybe a few months, to recalibrate myself and put it in perspective. I promise you, this is not goodbye. This is just a, ‘We’ll see each other soon.'”
