Malakai Black remains with All Elite Wrestling despite his reported request for a release.
Raj Giri of WrestlingInc.com previously reported that AEW has not granted his request for a release, with personal issues and his mental health being named as the primary motives. His presentation in AEW has also been an issue, according to Giri.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, sources close to Black confirmed that a personal situation has been weighing heavily on him, and he has discussed “a long, perhaps permanent, break from professional wrestling” to deal with it. That said, Johnson reports that, as of August 2, Black remains with AEW, and he is still scheduled for the All Out pay-per-view.
Black signed a multi-year deal with AEW, and he debuted for the company in July 2021.
