Kyle O’Reilly On His Injury: I’ve Been Banged Up, I Don’t Know The Recovery Time Yet

Kyle O’Reilly has offered an update about his injury.

The Undisputed Elite star last wrestled on June 8, where he won a battle royale and went on to face Jon Moxley in the main event on AEW Dynamite. He has been sidelined since Sting hit him below the belt with a bat on the June 17 episode of AEW Rampage. Tony Khan later confirmed that O’Reilly is out with an injury.

During an appearance on This is VANCOLOUR, O’Reilly explained that he has been dealing with a nagging injury in recent years, and he’s been particularly banged up lately. He noted that he doesn’t know the extent of the issue yet, but he expects to learn more information this week.

“This October, I’ll be wrestling for 17 years now,” said O’Reilly. “And that’s a lot of bumps, it’s a lot of wear and tear on your body. Fortunately, nothing serious has really happened to me, and I mean I’ve been hurt a lot, I’ve been injured, but I’ve always just grinded through it. I’ve always made the date, I’ve always showed up. I’ve performed as well as I can in the ring, despite whatever I was nursing. And sometimes the medical staff just kinda needs to save us from ourselves because as wrestlers, we’ll go until the wheels fall off. Like you tell us we’re hurt. ‘Okay, my shoulder’s hurt? Okay so I just won’t do any moves where I land on my shoulder in the match, but I’ll still have the match.’ We’re crazy like that.

“So this is something that I’ve been dealing with. It’s a nagging thing that I’ve been dealing with, specifically, pretty bad for the last five years. And the last few weeks of wrestling for me on AEW, I’ve been really banged up and just didn’t know the extent of it until now. And I still don’t know all the information so I don’t want to disclose exactly what’s happening with me. But yeah I need more information and I should know probably this week what the recovery time’s gonna be and what the recovery will entail. And all I can do is just use this, if there is some time off, use it to remotivate myself and get in better shape and come back stronger than ever before.”
