Jordynne Grace: Slammiversary Didn’t Rely On Surprises, We Leaned Into IMPACT’s History

Jordynne Grace would be open to teaming with Josh Alexander to add another title to her resume.

New IMPACT Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace spoke with WrestleZone about her Knockouts Championship win as well as some of the goals she would like to accomplish before her run in the company is over. Grace previously said that she wanted to win every title that IMPACT has, which includes the X Division, men’s tag team titles and World Championship. Asked if she’d like to face him down the line, Grace said that she might not get the chance to challenge him, but she’d still be open to teaming with him.

“Josh is absolutely insane. So I’m a little bit scared to wrestle him, but to be completely honest with you. But he’s definitely one of the best wrestlers in the world and the best wrestler at IMPACT, in my opinion. I mean, honestly, even if I don’t get to wrestle him for the World title, I would love for us to be possibly a tag team together, because collectively we’ve held every belt at IMPACT.”

The past few years of Slammiversary events (specifically 2020 and 2021) saw the company promote “their world changing” and a reliance on surprise free agent signings. The 2022 event, however, celebrated IMPACT’s past and current roster, and Grace touted how IMPACT leaned into its history this year and honored the past while building towards the future.

“I feel like this show specifically, a lot of the shows IMPACT has relied on outside talent. And this show, I feel like even the main event, usually would bring in a big outside name to draw people in. But this show, I feel like this show was really specifically for the fans that watched TNA as it’s been going on the past 20 years because we relied on homegrown talent really and names that made IMPACT what it is today. We have such a rich history and I feel like we leaned into it this show because it was a 20th anniversary show and we paid tribute to that.”

Asked if there was a balance between relying on current talent and bringing in new faces she’d like to see, Grace thought Slammiversary stood on its own. Grace previously said that she’d love to see Dakota Kai brought in, but still feels like the current IMPACT roster is strong enough to stand on its own.

“Specifically for that show [Slammiversary 2022], I think that we didn’t need any other outside talent. We didn’t need any other surprises. We had enough surprises in bringing back old people that used to work for IMPACT. But moving forward, I think that we just need to rely on who we have, on the homegrown talent. It would be awesome to bring in someone like Dakota Kai to IMPACT, but I think we have such an incredible roster right now that we don’t necessarily need anybody else to come in. I know that AEW signed a ton of people and they’re all extremely talented people, but there seems to be a surprise every week, and I think that IMPACT just needs to build up who they have now.”

Grace will be part of IMPACT Wrestling’s television tapings on July 2 in Atlanta. Check out our full interview with Jordynne below:
