Welcome or welcome back to our weekly AEW Dynamite hits and misses series where we recap some of the biggest ups and downs from the show.
Hit – New Tag Team Champions
The Hurt Syndicate beat Private Party to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship after a fun match. It’s great to see Shelton just ragdoll his opponents. Lashley has money written all over him. Zay and Quen never got the opportunity to solidify themselves as tag team champions but at least they went out with a great match against the Syndicate.
Miss – Jeff Jarrett’s promo on AEW Dynamite
It’s 2025 and Double J wants to put himself in the title picture. It seems Tony Khan doesn’t know how to say no. Nobody wants to see Jarrett go after the gold, especially after how he booked himself to stay as NWA-TNA Champion all those years ago. AEW has a lot of stars who could actually benefit from getting a title program with Mox. But no, it has to be the last outlaw. Why didn’t you finish the job when you had the chance? Hangman!
Hit – Swerve Strickland vs. AR Fox
This was a really good match between these two men who’ve known each other for so long. Ricochet’s run-in was evident from the get-go. It seems Ricochet is trying to get over his laughter. Strickland cut a great promo backstage after Ricochet tried to cut open Prince Nana. The writer is looking forward to their AEW Dynamite match in Atlanta.
Miss – Learning Tree segment
What’s AEW trying to achieve with these weird Learning Tree segments? At least, they teased a Big Bill solo run. He needs to get out of the Jericho vortex as soon as he can. As for Bryan Keith, the Bounty Hunter gimmick needs to return instead of this angry Chris Jericho translator we’re getting week in and out.
Hit – Death Riders take out everyone on AEW Dynamite
Cope was forced to watch Death Riders take out FTR and Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. I thought this closing segment was a good way to show that Death Riders mean business. Mox has been talking in riddles for so long that it’s hard to take his actions seriously. They really need to put the world title on Jay White at some point. He’s money.
Honorable Mentions
- Omega and Ospreay delivered a great start to AEW Dynamite. The post-promo brawl with Don Callis Family was fun. The double moonsault was a sight to behold. Omega and Ospreay worked great as nemesis. Let’s see how their tag team outing against Takeshita and Fletcher turns out at Grand Slam.
- Adam Page is just so good at what he does. Chris Daniels’ words really shook him. He seemed to have completely caught off guard. It seems like the end of the road for Daniels. The Texas Death Match against Page was damn brutal but a fitting way to cap off the great of a living legend.
- AEW seemingly confirmed Malakai Black’s departure from the company with House of Black promo. Black had an interesting career in Tony Khan’s promotion, to say the least. Let’s see if he’s the one Dominik Mysterio has been referring to on RAW as of late.
