The solution is simple, go back to how things were when they launched the original brand extension back in 2002. It’s incredibly silly to have 2 world champions in one company and there are no more brand exclusive pay-per-views. Make the WWE Champion defend the title on both shows. Each month the brands alternate so while one brand gets the champion the other builds the next number one contender.
If a title feud lasts for a few months, then it can continue on both brands. After losing the title, the champion goes back to his original brand. It would automatically elevate the WWE Title in importance and thus the champion. It would also fix the “B show” problem and stop the strange concept of two different brands, that are identical except for the wrestlers involved and the names of the brands themselves. If they really wanted the brand extension to succeed, they would have made one brand for kids (TV-PG) and one brand for the adults (TV-14). That way we would’ve had two actually distinct brands and there would be genuine excitement when wrestlers would switch brands, as we would get to see them in a different environment.
Imagine AJ Styles feuding with Rusev one month and Seth Rollins the next?! The mid-card champions instantly become more important too and get to headline house show tours. The WWE Champion alternates house show tours between brands so if he headlines a SmackDown Live house show the Intercontinental Champion can headline the RAW one.
I see the house show situation as the only real barrier. Vince McMahon would likely worry that if a world champion doesn’t headline a house show tour that its ticket sales will drop. That said, I’m not sure if that would really be an issue considering RAW has been running world champion-less house show tours since early 2017.
As for Brock Lesnar, just have him put someone over as soon as possible and retire the Universal Title. A part time world champion is one of the worst ideas that the WWE has ever had, so is creating a “Universal” Title. I still don’t understand what it represents, other planets? The WWE Universe? It makes no sense and it’s time to finally start making some.
The WWE Title is the most prestigious title in WWE history and should once again be treated that way. It’s time to start making sense. Lesnar’s feuds from now on should focus on using his dominant booking to put over younger talent. Imagine what rub someone like Seth Rollins would get from cleanly beating him? It’s time to end Brock Lesnar’s title run and start improving the company. After all, how long will RAW go without a world champion at all?
