Lashley could’ve won the Intercontinental Title or went straight after Brock Lesnar. Imagine this scenario: Paul Heyman is doing an in-ring promo with Brock Lesnar standing next to him, Lashley comes out, gets in the ring and stares down Brock. The crowd erupts as Heyman looks concerned. Lashley looks at the Universal Title on Lesnar’s shoulder then at Lesnar. Lesnar backs up and leaves with a nervous Heyman. Kurt Angle comes out on the ramp and announces Lesnar vs Lashley at SummerSlam. Will Lashley finally lose? Or will we finally have a new Universal Champion? Can you imagine the excitement? The social media buzz that this match would create? Can you imagine Paul Heyman’s promos about how Lashley’s dream will end as a failure?
These days, Lashley is for some reason teaming with Roman Reigns (or at least teamed with him once), and it seems that they’re building up a feud between the two. I don’t understand the logic as I doubt that either is turning heel, and the fans won’t choose Reigns over Lashley, or well anyone for that matter. Reigns going over Lashley will only hurt Lashley’s momentum further. In other words, Lashley must win. If the WWE wants to salvage Lashley’s current stint in the company, they need to either move on from this feud altogether, have Reigns turn heel (which they won’t do), or have Lashley beat Reigns. Lashley beating Reigns works well for everyone, a clean win establishes Lashley as a serious contender to Lesnar’s title, and Reigns can always “get his win back” later.
Bobby Lashley’s WWE return has been underwhelming so far, but the WWE has a chance to right the ship. Book Lashley as a dominant force beating everyone in sight, have him go over Reigns and put him against Lesnar. That’s the right thing to do if they want Lashley to succeed. If Lashley isn’t over enough by the match with Lesnar, simply have Lesnar squash him and Braun cash-in his MITB briefcase right after. Bobby Lashley’s career is in the WWE’s hands, will they make the right decisions?
