Who Needs To Win This Year’s Men’s MITB Match & What Changes Should Be Made To The Concept

We are left with The Miz, Bobby Roode and a New Day member. Roode badly needs a heel turn, and this could be a great catalyst for one, but can you see him getting a Universal Title run in the next 12 months?  I don’t, and so I see only two possible options: Miz or a New Day member. Miz is a popular choice these days, and deserves another WWE Title run, but what if a New Day member won the match instead? We all know that Xavier Woods isn’t going to be a main eventer, and that Kofi Kingston is unlikely to get there either, but what about Big E? He has the look that Vince likes, and has proven to be entertaining enough to deserve an opportunity. Imagine the shock if Big E wins the briefcase?! Social Media would be on fire discussing this shocking event and that’s exactly what the WWE likes. There’s just one problem, Big E needs a big build before he can win the WWE Title. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a former Intercontinental Champion and can be believable due to his size, but I think that he was in a tag team for so long that he needs another singles run in the mid-card for at least another year. So does this mean that I want Miz to win? Nope. I want Big E to win the briefcase at Money in the Bank… and then lose it to The Miz on SmackDown!

Do you remember when RVD had to put his briefcase on the line against Shelton Benjamin in 2006? What about when Mr. Kennedy lost his to Edge in 2007? The briefcase is never on the line, but it should be. It adds excitement to the concept, and unpredictability as to whether the winner will ever even get to use it. Imagine Miz accusing Big E of taking away his opportunity? Maybe they were on top of the ladder, and Miz grabbed the briefcase and started to pull it down, but Big E got involved too and it ended up falling into his hands. An angry Miz goads Big E into the match on SmackDown! later that same week. Big E puts it on the line because Kofi and Xavier accept the challenge for him, while he looks undecided for the few seconds that the match is made. Miz wins the match and walks away celebrating with the briefcase. Woods and Kofi console Big E… and he destroys them. He beats the hell out of them, he gets a steel chair and hits them both until security tries to pull him away, he drags Woods out of the ring and puts him through the announcer’s table…. next week he does a promo backstage. He’s wearing all black and isn’t smiling or laughing: “For years I danced around with you two, carrying you to tag team titles, but when I had a chance to be the WWE Champion, you took it away from me!”

The New Day are becoming stale and I don’t see how another tag title run is going to freshen up their act. They sell a lot of merchandise, so a heel turn for the whole group doesn’t seem wise either. Why not give Big E a push and keep Woods and Kofi as a New Day tag team instead? In the meantime, Miz can cash-in on AJ Styles by SummerSlam and become the WWE Champion for the second time. He can then carry the title until WrestleMania next year, where he can face Daniel Bryan (giving Bryan an incentive to stay with the company after his contract runs out later this year). Big E winning the briefcase and it becoming defended in matches again, is the way for the WWE to produce a more entertaining product.
