Will WWE Superstars Unionize After New Fox Deal?
Alfred Konuwa of Forbes speculates that the time may be ripe for WWE Superstars to unionize, especially in light of the reported $2 billion deal the company reportedly made with Fox. Konuwa believes the Leslie Smith trial may have some bearing on the possibility of any future unionization. Smith, a recently released MMA fighter, is suing the UFC to be recognized as employees in lieu of the current independent contractor status. According to Konuwa, a victory for Smith would inevitably lead to unionization for the UFC, at the very least. Konuwa believes the old school mentality in the WWE locker room may make any future attempt at unionization an uphill battle; however, if Smith does indeed win the heat would begin to be turned up for the WWE and the way they also classify their Superstars as independent contractors.
