Since Daniel Bryan’s in-ring return at Wrestlemania 34, it wouldn’t be unfair to question the booking decisions made by WWE regarding his win/loss record or what exactly they are trying to accomplish with him at the moment. However, one thing is for sure, Daniel Bryan has no business in a ladder match with seven other wrestlers.
It doesn’t take a ton of research to know that ladder matches can be dangerous. Just ask Joey Mercury. While on the surface it looks like Bryan is being treated as any other wrestler on the roster when it comes to taking bumps, but looking closer you can see that other wrestlers certainly don’t want to be the one to put him back on the shelf.
I know there are people disappointed Bryan will not be involved in the Money In The Bank Ladder match, but this is the right move by WWE. Firstly, It’s just common sense that Bryan shouldn’t be in a match with seven other men, multiple ladders, and long falls. All are huge risk factors that could potentially derail Bryan’s comeback. There just isn’t a point to risking his health and well being. With ladders flying around and wrestlers doing their own thing and possibly not paying attention to what’s going on behind them could lead to disastrous consequences. One would have to believe that if Daniel Bryan suffers another concussion his career would most likely be over. And permanently this time.
Secondly, Bryan doesn’t need the briefcase. That’s not his character. It doesn’t fit him. He is the underdog and plays that roll to perfection. He doesn’t need an “in” where he can take advantage of a weakened opponent. His eventual reclamation of a major title will come the same way it did at Wrestlemania 30. The slow build to the ultimate climax. It’s who he is and what he does. And when it happens again it will be just as sweet as the first time.
As far as Bryan and his sort of strange feud with Big Cass goes… I think this will be short term and is setting up for a Bryan/Miz feud. So again, there is no reason to jeopardize what could potentially be one of the best feuds in WWE this summer, and hopefully the continuation of a long career in WWE.
I believe the best is yet to come for Daniel Bryan, the potential dream matches we could see in the future are very tantalizing. Bryan will never not be over, so there is no concern with his momentum at this point. So let’s keep him safe and out of high risk situations for now anyway. I applaud WWE for this decision. I’m sure there was pressure to get him in this match but the right call was made.
