There are nine tag teams on the Monday Night Raw roster right now, yet for some reason, virtually no credibility to go around.
Things aren’t looking good for Raw’s tag team division, and we could be in for a rough couple of months unless there is a change in the booking strategy.
As we stand, the No. 1 contenders are The B-Team—two guys who have been jobbers most of their careers and are only on a three match “winning streak” as a joke. The whole point is that it’s fun to root for these dopes, and it’s certainly entertaining, but at its core, the entire purpose is that they’re losers.
By default, all of the other tag teams they defeated in this week’s battle royal look worse for having lost to them, but it isn’t as though most of them were firing on all cylinders, either.
It isn’t so bad to have something lean more on the comedic side once in a while, but there seems to be an abundance of that in Raw’s tag team scene, as it isn’t just The B-Team and The Deleters of Worlds who are on the laughable side.
I love Breezango, but The Fashion Police pretty much exist to be funny and not be taken seriously. It’s a shame they aren’t allowed to show off their comedic chops and still win matches, but that’s clearly not how WWE wants them to look.
Titus Worldwide could be a legitimate team, as Titus O’Neil and Apollo Crews are certainly muscular enough to look like they can beat people up, but when O’Neil is making a joke of himself slipping and sliding at the Greatest Royal Rumble, Dana Brooke is playing the part of their statistician (for some reason) and they also never win anything, they don’t look so hot, either.
The Ascension hasn’t been worth a damn since the first few weeks they made the jump to the main roster. For years now, they only show up to lose and can’t even get wins on Main Event. They have no presence of clout and any wins they would get would only make their opponents look worse, rather than make them look better.
The Revival’s injuries have plagued them since their main roster debut and that has caused WWE to sit them in the backseat and not book them anywhere close to how they were used in NXT. On that brand, they were having amazing matches left and right and were highly revered. Now, they’re bit-players who—if you can sense a theme here—lose all the time.
Nothing need to be clarified about Heath Slater and Rhyno’s roles, as they won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships as a joke and then have had a career of eating crackers and cheese (or bologna sandwiches).
