PWInsider.com is reporting AAA has a hold for a September event at Madison Square Garden.
According to the report, WWE does have a “right of first refusal” on the venue based on their current deal, but a bigger story is that MSG is reportedly unhappy with WWE. It was said that MSG is not pleased with WWE for booking a majority of their events at the Barclays Center, including all of their Wrestlemania 35 week events next year. It’s being said that the Wrestlemania calendar was the ‘tipping point’ for MSG to being more open to booking non-WWE wrestling shows at the venue.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson noted this could be a sign that MSG is leveraging WWE into running more events with them instead of at the Barclays Center; the two venues have been competing for the same acts since the Brooklyn venue opened in 2012. No other wrestling promotions have run an event at The Garden, although some rare events have taken place at the Theater in MSG next door.
Earlier this week, WWE announced The Undertaker would make his first appearance at MSG in eight years; Ronda Rousey will also make her Garden debut next month at the event scheduled for July 7th.
