Smackdown Live Preview & Discussion: Jeff Hardy On MizTV, Shinsuke Demands AJ Apology, More
I get asked almost daily by potential students…”How long until I make it?”
The easiest answer is, “There is no time limit.”
I could go on and on about the dynamics into “making it” but that also depends on your definition of making it. So for now I will use the most well known company, the WWE. Back when one of our graduates from the World Famous Monster Factory, Steve Cutler was signed to a developmental contract in 2013 he only had thirteen matches under his belt. It didn’t hurt that he was a Marine who did two tours in Afghanistan plus I had brought Gerald Brisco in specifically to scout him. Today to be signed like that is few and far between. Today the WWE wants you to be an established star on the independent scene. A solid social media following. Along with that social media following you also want to be sure that you don’t have any questionable or risky content posted. Trust me, they have people that look at all of this. So don’t screw up your future.
So again…how long does all of this take? Let me break it down for you like this. Put in the work. Day in. Day out. Network with professional, goal oriented people. Quality bookings. Promote not only your brand but also who you wrestle for. If things are not working out in some places be sure to not burn bridges or air it out on social media. Be a pro. In Professional Wrestling, no matter what your job or role is, there are times you will have to swallow your pride and eat crap sandwiches. No matter what level you are on. I do it still to this day. Comes with the territory. Just know that if you stay the course, continue to train, get quailty bookings, up your social media game on all platforms, plus be a good person to everyone, not just those that can help you…do all of this and eventually someone notice and that person just might hire you.
Hard work pays off. All the talent in the world means nothing if you don’t put in that work. Professional Wrestling is tough. But the pay off is worth it. Enjoy the ride. The destination kicks ass but the journey is where all the coolest stories come from! Nothing is overnight. If it was, everyone would make it. Put in that work!
