John Cena made his return to WWE Smackdown Live, but it didn’t go without interruption as Rusev also made his return and took issue with the fanfare surrounding Cena’s comeback.
Cena kicked the show off and talked about how good it was to be back, he keeps hearing people talk about him going Hollywood, and how he’s a part timer. Cena said he is going to make great use of his time in WWE, and named Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Shinsuke Nakamura and a number of WWE stars, saying they can line them all up, but he’d knock them down. Cena said the franchise was back, but then Rusev interrupted him and came out (to a decent pop, FWIW) and asked where his return promos were.
Rusev said he sat back at home and rehabbed, waiting for a phone call but Cena got all the praise, and he thinks it’s a joke just like this country. Rusev ripped Americans for Independence Day customs before he and Cena traded barbs, then Cena challenged him to a Flag Match, and Rusev accepted… but not today! Rusev said Cena won’t boss him around, and they’ll fight on his terms and his time, so Cena got the crowd to chant USA at Rusev on his way out.
