Booker T Talks His Decision to Run for Mayor of Houston, Transitioning from a Wrestler to a Mayor, Staying Relevant in WWE and More

On the most recent edition of “Heated Conversations”, which you can listen to at this link, host and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T addressed his announcement regarding his decision to run for Mayor of Houston in 2019. Below are other quotes from Booker on the podcast:

On Staying Relevant:

I love embracing where I am at in life. Right now, at this stage of my life, it is awesome. To still be part of WWE. I was talking to a guy last week and I told him that, it’s cool to still be relevant. Still be who I am to be able to do what I do. He looked at me and said, you know, I don’t like the word relevant. For you, that’s not a good word. I said, what I mean by staying relevant is that you have so many young guys coming up and doing so many incredible things, we have to take a step aside and tell them, hey man, go for it. Do what you do; and to stay relevant during that storm, and people still wanting to see you do the Spinaroonie, and do the 5-Time, and want to take a photo of Booker T when he walks out of the house; that means a whole lot to stay relevant within the storm of everything going on because you can actually get lost in that storm and never be heard of or seen ever again, and like I said, for me, I’ve had a 26 year career like a snowball going downhill, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Now, you’ve heard it–in 2020 I’m preparing myself to run for the Mayor of the city of Houston, and I’m going to need a lot of support for that, and as long as I keep becoming the person that I am right now, I think I can get a lot of support towards my election.

On His Transition from Being a Wrestler to a Mayor:

You go with your gut instinct, your intuition. I think that has to do with, as for me and the decisions I make, I think running for Mayor came for me in the middle of the night–in a vision. I said that this is something that I had to do, just a couple of nights ago when I was at a Boxing event. It came to me at this Boxing match that I have to run for Mayor of the city. I called my wife and I told her that I’m running for Mayor, and she started laughing. It was like the biggest laugh in the world. I went home, and told her again that I’m running for Mayor. She’s still laughing at me. She knows how stupid I am, and then I woke up the next morning talking to somebody on the phone about it, and she goes, are you still talking about that nonsense about you running for Mayor? I said, baby, I have to do this. She said, do you know how much work I’m going to have to do? She already does all the work now for Reality of Wrestling, and everything else, along with my bookings and everything, she’s the one doing it. I definitely think I have a chance. I think that the time is now, and it’s no better time than right now for Booker T to make a run for it.
