The latest edition of “The Ric Flair Show” is now available to listen to in full at this link, and below are some quotes from Flair during his “Ask Naitch” segment:
On the Sasha Banks/Charlotte Flair Feud:
I’m confident she will regain the title. I will say this; her and Sasha right now are the hottest item in professional wrestling. It’s the hottest feud I have seen in a long time, and God bless both of them. They definitely deserve the recognition, and certainly put in the work, and I’m just glad Sasha didn’t get beat up as bad as me.
On Alexa Bliss and the Orton/Wyatt Tag Team:
I’ve talked to some people there and they say that [Bliss] has become a really good performer, so, you know, you’re not going to win all of them, but I’m sure Becky has it in her to win the title back, but Becky is a great performer also and my hats off to her. I don’t know her very well but, you know, I really liked Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton. I think it’s something people didn’t expect to happen. I think it’s refreshing, and it’s new. I think Bray is a phenomenal talent. I think Randy [Orton] is a top two performer in the business, so it’s great for business, it’s great for them; they’re definitely the best tag team in the business now.
On the Observer Hall of Fame:
First of all, Mean Gene for sure. Sting and Daniel Bryan also deserve honorable mention into Dave Meltzer’s Observer Hall of Fame. Sting has been a huge part of this industry. He laid low for a long time, but when he came back, made a huge impact for the company and got into the WWE Hall of Fame. Daniel Bryan, who I just know a little bit, but is a really good guy, and his career came to a tragic halt due to the concussion protocol, but great guys; I’m happy for all of them. I think Dave Meltzer takes it really seriously, and looks at all of their accomplishments and, you know, Dave has had the Observer out there a long time, so I think it’s a no-brainer and a nice achievement for all of them.
On Ric Flair’s First Career Choice Before Pro Wrestling:
Believe it or not, at one time I wanted to be a Dentist. My Dad was a doctor, and had to get braces, so I just thought it was an interesting profession is all. Obviously, I didn’t have the academic background. My choice changed once I attended my first advanced chemistry class. I had a hard time with my own chemistry, much less something with school.
Origins of Woo:
I started saying Woo in 1974 after Jerry Lewis sang, goodness gracious, great balls of fire, woo! Not exactly the way I do it, but it was enough to get me motivated to start saying it.
On Most Disappointed Celebrity He’s Ever Met:
The only celebrity I met and became disappointed was Magic Johnson. He just acted like he barely knew me, which is fine, but that was his prerogative. Otherwise, other than when I think of the fact that I had drinks with Wilt Chamberlain in Honolulu, I think to myself, Magic Johnson? Come on, let’s get serious. I’ve been out wit Joe Namath, Jim Kelly, Lawrence Taylor, Charles Barkley, speaking of Basketball, I mean, Magic Johnson pales in comparison in my opinion. Great player, but you know, that was just my impression. In history he was a wonderful guy, but to me he wasn’t, and I don’t go out of my way to find him.
