Big News Updates For This Weekend’s Evolve 68 & 69: Gargano Says Goodbye, Joey Styles Confirmed, Ricochet Added & More

We’ve got a ton of news on Evolve coming your way, courtesy of the latest WWN Alert as the promotion prepares for a stacked series of shows this weekend, with Evolve 68 in Deer Park, NY on Saturday and Evolve 69 in Queens on Sunday.

– New Japan and Lucha Underground star Ricochet has been added to Evolve 68 IPPV. The high flying star will take on Matt Riddle and Tony Nese in a triple threat match. This will be his first match with the promotion since April.

– Joey Styles will be on hand this weekend, and apparently has a new role with Evolve. Per WWN Alerts: “Styles has been given the ‘go ahead’ to interject himself on events when he feels he can make the show better for the wrestlers and the fans. This isn’t a typical commissioner or GM role. It’s about Joey paving a legacy of unselfishly giving back to the pro wrestling business and the fans.”

– This will be an emotional weekend for NXT star Johnny Gargano, who says goodbye to the Evolve fans. Gargano was one of the stars to have wrestled on the very first Evolve show back in 2010, and event headlined by Davey Richards and Kota Ibushi. On Saturday he will step into the ring for what is being promoted as his final singles match with the promotion, taking on Zack Sabre Jr. in a battle of the Evolve aces.

– They are also promoting some kind of cryptic farewell angle for Gargano in the video featured below. They won’t say who exactly is coming for Johnny Wrestling, but apparently it’s a star that has wrestled for Evolve at some point in 2016. As far as internet chatter goes, leading candidates right now are Tommy End, who is also leaving for WWE, and Ciampa, Gargano’s partner in NXT (if he’s allowed to work the show).
