As you probably know by now, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to star in a follow-up to Robin Williams’ iconic 1995 film “Jumanji”. The Great One will take on the role of Dr. Bravestone alongside co-stars Kevin Hart, Nick Jonas and Jack Black.

The Rock has assured fans that this new take on the story, set for release July 2017, will not be a reboot or attempt to retcon the original film in any way. Rather this new “Jumanji” will be a continuation of sorts to the original tale, that saw a young boy sucked into a mysterious board game, emerging decades later as a fully grown wildman (Williams), bringing all sorts of horrors with him.

Johnson also recently confirmed that the incomparably attractive Karen Gillan has been added to the cast. Gillan may be most famous to “Dr. Who” fans for her portrayal of the Doctor’s (best) companion Amy Pond. She also has a role in the ongoing “Guardians of the Galaxy” film series from Marvel, alongside WWE alumni Dave Bautista.

The film is being directed by Jake Kasden (Bad Teacher, Sex Tape) with writing credits going to “American Dad” and “Community” writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, as well as long-time JJ Abrams writer Jeff Pinkner, and Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction).

No word on whether or not Jonathan Hyde’s excellent Van Pelt or his legion of terribly-animated CGI monkeys will be returning for the film as well.
