Today was another episode of Wrestling Reality with Justin LaBar on TribLIVE Radio. You can listen live every Tuesday and Wednesday at 2pm EST. Also, download the podcast from the website or iTunes. Here’s a summary of today’s episode:
:32: LaBar’s reaction to the GM’s and the draft rules:
“Draft rules are dumb. For every 2 SmackDown picks RAW get’s 3. I don’t care if RAW is longer. That’s why you do smart decisions like the Cruisweights on RAW. RAW has 15 segments, Smackdown with 10. Cruiserweights can eat up 3 to 4 segments. So then it’s almost equal. And because Cruiserweights are ONLY on RAW, you don’t need to draft people because they automatically go to RAW. Equal picks for equal brand. RAW getting more picks makes them seem more important. Drafting of tag teams or not, DUMB. Just draft the team. If you draft one member of a team, how do we not look at the other member(s) of a team as weaker links. The other reason is we’ve tried this before and it sucks. You break up a team for shock value and they fall flat on as singles stars and they get back together again. You wanna break people up and shake things up, break up the commentary teams.”
8:25: Interview with Kofi Kingston:
“It was a combination of both [creative writers and talent coming up with New Day]. Three years ago we were in weird stages of our careers. I’d been doing the same thing for years with WWE. Big E just had IC title run with the feuds floundering. Woods wasn’t really getting a chance to get off the ground. Xavier and Big E knew each other from developmental and they came to me about forming this trio. I was alls about it because it was something interesting and new. We were all fighting to get on TV as a group an that was all Xavier Woods getting us together. Then the idea we were given once we made on TV wasn’t the idea we wanted. We believed in our hearts, once we got on TV as a unit we would thrive and that’s what happen.”
*Kingston goes on to talk about the draft, who is the best dancer in New Day and the fight with Wyatt Family on their compound.
