Goldberg / Vince McMahon Heat Revealed, Ronda Rousey To WrestleMania 33?, Will Ospreay Wins Major New Japan Tournament

In today’s WrestleTalk News, details on the real-life backstage heat between Goldberg and Vince McMahon emerge after the former WCW and WWE World Heavyweight Champion’s 2K17 deal, howWWE might be using the Brock Lesnar UFC 200 deal to get Ronda Rousey for a Wrestlemania match, and Will Ospreay wins New Japan’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament!

Ronda Rousey To WWE?

Brock Lesnar surprised the world on Saturday night at UFC 199 by showing up at the end of an advert promoting their next big pay per view, UFC 200 – which he’ll now be fighting on. The announcement shocked the wrestling business because Lesnar is still under contract with WWE, and now he’ll be making a one-off appearance for what is arguably their main competitor. Sorry TNA.

It’s led many to ask: what is in it for WWE? Well, according to Forbes, it’s Ronda Rousey.

As one of the world’s most recognisable sportspeople, Rousey would be a huge coup for WWE, and they’re reportedly trying to bring her in for a match at next year’s Wrestlemania 33 in Orlando, Florida.

Apparently WWE are “confident” they can agree on Rousey appearing in a match, especially with Lesnar’s UFC 200 deal giving them a beast-sized amount of leverage. PWInsider are also reporting that WWE are seeking female UFC fighters to appear in a Summerslam angle with the women’s division, specifically Paige VanZant, who recently came second in Dancing With The Stars.

Rousey has a ready made feud in WWE if a deal is reached. At Wrestlemania 31, she appeared alongside The Rock in a segment against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, putting the latter in a semi arm-bar kind of thing – one of the few times ever Steph has been made to look weak.

Will Ospreay Wins Major New Japan Tournament

Ospreay! Ospreay! Ospreay! Ospreay!

That’s a clue to who won New Japan’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament yesterday: Will Ospreay! He will now get a title shot against IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion KUSHIDA.

Ospreay has been in the wrestling news for the past fortnight, even breaking into the mainstream when his controversial match against Ricochet at the tournament was covered by ESPN. Former New Japan Star Big Van Vader had criticised the bout for being “a memorised gymnastics routine,” while many others leapt to its defence. Or should that be ‘triple summersault corkscrew leapt’ to its defence.

A big congratulations to Will Ospreay from us all here at WrestleTalk. British wrestling is taking over the world! Want more proof? Check out British Wrestling Weekly on WhatCulture Wrestling’s YouTube channel every Saturday.
