Brock Lesnar Reportedly “Close” to Finalizing a Fight Deal for UFC 200

According to MMA Fighting, WWE star Brock Lesnar, who is currently under a 3 year deal with WWE, is “close” to finalizing a deal for a fight at UFC 200.

The report notes multiple sources have confirmed Lesnar is in talks with UFC about fighting at the big event, which will be headlined by Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier in a Light Heavyweight Championship rematch.

You might recall Lesnar was in talks with UFC last year before he made an appearance on ESPN to reveal he decided to sign a three year deal with WWE which will expire in 2018. Lesnar had the following to say during the March 2015 ESPN appearance:

“It was a very hard decision at this stage of my career. The fighter inside me wants to compete. The father and husband. I’m an older caveman now. I make wiser caveman decisions. So, I’m here to say my legacy in the Octagon is over. It was a hard decision to make. It took me a year. I’ve thought about this for a year. At the end of the day, it’s all about me wanting to have fun. The last two-and-a-half months I’ve been training to get back into the Octagon. I felt physically great, but something lacked mentally, and that’s not good.”

History shows that WWE typically does not allow contracted talent to appear at other promotion’s events, as the company previously forced Alberto Del Rio to stop fighting when he signed. It should also be noted if Lesnar does appear at UFC 200 it will be because it has been cleared by WWE. It should also be noted Lesnar is still under contract with WWE and the new UFC report should not be taken to mean Lesnar has been released from WWE.

Lesnar last competed in UFC in 2011, losing a fight to Alistair Overeem via TKO, and while the MMA Fighting report does not mention a possible UFC 200 opponent for Lesnar, Shane Carwin has been wanting a rematch against The Beast for awhile now.

To me this sounds like all the rumored times Sting was “close” to signing with WWE whenever a major event was drawing near. Lesnar has been rumored in the past to be in talks to appear at big UFC events, namely the 168 event, and while Lesnar appearing at 200 is entirely possible, I’m not sure how realistic it is.
