Chavo Guerrero Talks His Upcoming Comic Book ‘Warrior’s Creed’, Working w/ Deadpool Writer Fabian Nicieza, Possible Movies & Video Games, More

WrestleZone Radio is proud to present this exclusive interview with Lucha Underground’s Chavo Guerrero Jr, in conjunction with Chavo’s upcoming comic book series Warrior’s Creed being released by Lion Forge Comics on June 1, 2016.

On how his partnership with Lion Forge Comics to create Warrior’s Creed came about:

CG: This is something that is so cool. This kind of happened on accident, if you want to call it that. Sometimes the best things happen on accident. I was at CES in Vegas maybe two years ago. I was with Rampage Jackson and he has a comic book with Lion Forge and I didn’t even know that. We are walking around and checking out all the cool things and all of a sudden I see Dave Steward. Dave is one of the owners of Lion Forge, one of the jefes. He basically comes up to Rampage like, “Oh! What’s up?” Rampage introduces me to Dave and he’s like, “Oh! Chavo! Hey, how are you doing?” Such a nice guy. Then he goes, “Chavo, great to meet you.” We exchange numbers. The next day I get a text or email from him that says, “Would you be interested in opening some discussions and starting a comic book?” I went, “ABSOLUTELY!” There was an expletive in between “AB-SO-EFF’N-LUTELY!” I said, “That is great.” Then it just kind of went from there.

On working with Deadpool writer Fabian Nicieza to develop the story:

CG: They said to me, “Are you familiar with him?” I said, “Sorry, I am not.” They said, “Well, he created this comic called Deadpool.” I said, “Oh? The Deadpool?” They said, “No. Deadpool.” I said, “Ok, I’m not too familiar with it yet.” My background was always that I loved comics but I was an old school Spiderman and Superman guy. There’s so many new, great comics out there that I just haven’t gotten in to all of them. They said, “Yeah, Deadpool, they are making a movie about him.” All of a sudden this movie comes out and it’s just this blockbuster hit. They called me and said, “Well, that’s the guy who created your comic book.” I was like, “Well alright! That’s pretty cool man!”

On a potential Warrior’s Creed movie starring Chavo:

CG: That’s definitely something that everybody keeps in mind. It starts with a comic book and goes from there. Then it morphs in to video games, cartoon series… there’s a bunch of different stuff. Depending on the popularity of it. We will see, you never know!
