Backstage News on When Daniel Bryan Suffered His Last Seizure, Rumor Killer on Bryan Suffering a Seizure During Last Singles Match

There has been recent online speculation that Daniel Bryan might have suffered a seizure during his last televised WWE singles match, which was against Sheamus on the April 2nd, 2015 episode of Smackdown. As seen in the video at the bottom of the article, at the 2:20 mark Bryan takes a Bullhammer from King Barrett, begins to convulse on the ground, and is tended to at ringside by a member of WWE’s medical staff.

During Daniel Bryan’s appearance on last Tuesday’s ESPN Off the Top Rope segment, Bryan revealed that an EEG test taken in New York a couple weeks ago showed a slowing of brain activity and a “small, subacute lesion” in an area of his brain that causes seizures. Bryan added,

“I have had post-concussion seizures that I have hid, for a long time. There was never any evidence to see why I would have these seizures, but then finally we found some.”

The Bullhammer spot in the match footage above, along with the comments Bryan made during his ESPN appearance, lead to the online speculation that he might have suffered a seizure in the match.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, however, is reporting that while Daniel Bryan has had a history of seizures, he has not had one in 4 years.

“The last time he [Bryan] had a seizure was four years ago,” Meltzer said. “Obviously I don’t know who he hid it from and who he didn’t hide it from, but what I can tell you factually is that every single doctor that he talked with knew about it. He didn’t hide that from any doctors.”

Meltzer added that while Bryan admitted to hiding his history of seizures, he told every single doctor about them as he underwent clearance to compete in WWE, including his own doctors who recently cleared him to return. As we previously reported, Bryan said he had been cleared to return to the ring by a doctor last summer who acted as the chief neurologist for the Super Bowl in Arizona. Bryan also recently said he was cleared to return by concussion specialists at UCLA, however he never received medical clearance from WWE doctors.
