On whether he was surprised at the finish of WWE’s Survivor Series last night with Sheamus cashing in the Money in the Bank on Roman Reigns:
JL: Not entirely. The thing with the whole finish is that I am not thrilled in terms of the… like I said, when you have the chance to hit the reset button. I just feel like there was a chance to do some different things. Even if some of that different stuff was predictable. Whether it was a Reigns heel or an Ambrose heel. I don’t know. Sheamus has had the briefcase. He eventually had to cash it in at some point. It didn’t mean he had to be successful. He did have to cash it in. The one thing that I want to say about the cash in is that my whole thought has been since Seth Rollins got hurt. You lost your top heel so you need to replace the top heel. Whether that heel becomes Roman Reigns or that heel becomes Ambrose. Whether you use an already established heel like Owens or Del Rio. I like the fact that they at least, with Sheamus, there’s a whole other debate about, “He’s got X-Pac heat.” Or, “He’s the turn the channel heat.” Whatever. You don’t want people to turn the channel. If people are just legit disliking him and they’re mad that they don’t like him well, that’s the idea. That’s the job. There’s a whole debate on, “What level heat he gets.” I’m going to be talking to him this afternoon. Perhaps we will get in to that. The whole show was just kind of lackluster for me. In general. I wasn’t real thrilled with anything.
On what he thought of the Undertaker & Kane versus The Wyatt Family match from last night:
JL: I was happy to see Luke Harper in there. The whole thing was just bizarre. The entrance was great. You see Kane come out and then the fire. You see the slide show of the Undertaker. The entrance was great. Undertaker looked great for his age. He moved well in the ring. Erik Rowan was just deemed pointless. That was odd. Then, as I said, The Brothers of Destruction beat four guys. They already beat all four of them. They destroyed them on RAW a few weeks ago. Making this match seem almost pointless. They beat them again. This whole “Celebrate 25 Years,” yeah, I’ll appreciate seeing the Undertaker because he is one of a kind. He is a legend. It just felt flat. It didn’t feel memorable to me. I wasn’t excited about it. The match was ok. I am happy Harper was in there. He is certainly the right choice to be in there. Braun is a hard hitter. He’s a closer. He did his role in the match with the outside stuff. The whole show just kind of… was really lackluster to me.
On the Divas match on last night’s show and the controversial finish to Monday Night RAW this past week:
JL: Even the Divas match pissed me off. I was just very agitated. It was terrible. I don’t care that they went down the road they went down on RAW. I do feel bad now that we are learning Ric didn’t know. I feel bad that the family, unfortunately, was as upset as they were. Originally after RAW aired last week I said, “Hey, this family has been in the carnival business their whole life.” Reid Flair did a little bit of work himself. If everybody is ok with it then, you know, this kind of stuff adds a lot of juice. That’s that. What I wanted this match to remind me of. Obviously it’s on a lesser scale. In Survivor Series theme I wanted this match to start the way Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels did at The Montreal Screwjob. The fact is they shouldn’t even make it to the ring. Both of them don’t even make it to the ring. They need to fight in the aisle way. They fight in the entrance way. Do that. The bell doesn’t even ring. They brawl for five minutes. Maybe some refs come out. It takes five minutes before they can even get to the ring so the match officially starts. I don’t know how you start with the waist locks and all the crap they were doing. Then, as the match did pick up, it became an interesting back and forth. After they built to it. Which they shouldn’t have had to build to it. It should have been a fight right out of the gate. The crowd was dead the whole time. They didn’t make a noise. It was just… the whole thing was… huge waste. Huge waste.
Justin will be back next Monday, and every Monday, on the WrestleZone Daily at 12:30 pm EST right here on WrestleZone.com
