According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Alberto Del Rio reportedly signed a reduced-date contract with a $1,450,000 per year downside guarantee.
The report says WWE went to the table with a big offer because they need a big Hispanic star, and AAA (where Alberto still reigns as AAA Mega Champion) could not match the offer. Alberto claimed the deal was just put together quickly, and informed AAA of his decision over the weekend, possibly the morning of the WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view.
Previous reports stated the plan all along was for Alberto to be John Cena’s opponent, and Alberto wanted to make sure he kept a good relationship with AAA since he still had scheduled dates with them. It is unknown how many dates Alberto would finish with AAA, but he was scheduled for seven, and the company is reported to be plans for his absence. AAA still may be expecting Alberto to appear this Monday instead of WWE RAW, and that would be at Alberto’s discretion if he appeared.
