Ten Best John Cena Matches
IGN recently complied a list of the ten best John Cena matches in promoting this weekend’s WWE Summerslam pay-per-view.
It was noted that Seth Rollins called Cena a villain who hogs the spotlight, but win, lose or draw, he delivers quality matches. You can read a few of the matches to make the list, click here to find out what fills out the list.
John Cena vs. Rob Van Dam – ECW One Night Only, 2006
As you can see, this list is a mix of hard fought victories and painful losses. When MITB winner Rob Van Dam decided to cash in his title challenge contract, he didn’t sneak attack Cena. No, he named the date and time the two would meet. And it would be at ECW’s One Night Stand. There, Cena walked in to face one of the most hostile crowds of his career, and then lost the title to RVD due to some “Thank You Edge!” interference. To this date, RVD stands as the only guy to successfully win a world title using the MITB contract in what might be considered a more “honorable” way (aside from the match finish, of course).
John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan – Summerslam, 2013
Unfortunately, due to Daniel Bryan’s recurring health issues, there’s never been a Cena/Bryan rematch. Which is a shame because their SummerSlam main event, where Bryan went over clean and won the WWE Championship, was a tremendous fight. Mis-matched styles, yes, but it still worked. And Bryan even got to spit a little venom Cena’s way leading up to the event by calling him a “parody of a pro-wrestler” on RAW. Here’s hoping these two lock up again someday.
