The following are highlights from Rob Van Dam’s Q&A session at Mid-Atlantic Legends Fanfest today, courtesy of PWInsider.com.
*His most recent return to WWE came about because he made an appearance at the Hall of Famer ceremony to see his friend Booker T inducted, ended up talking to Triple H, and the rest is history.
*He has an active merch deal with WWE right now, which keeps him from going to TNA or Ring of Honor (and presumably anywhere else with a TV deal in place). He does intend to return to WWE at some point, but isn’t in a hurry to do so. His 2013 run was 66 matches in 90 days, mostly live events, and his last run let him pick and choose his own dates, and has left things open for a return whenever he feels he’s ready.
*There are no plans for a “retirement tour” at this point, but RVD doesn’t want to be on the road full-time anymore. He put over the young talent in the business today, saying they are hungrier and want those spots more. He says the end probably isn’t too far off though.
*He doesn’t consider himself a legend, and says that “legends” in wrestling are people like Ricky Steamboat, Hulk Hogan or JYD, but that the fans probably have a different perspective than him. He doesn’t have any expectations of going into the WWE Hall of Fame, but would be honored if it ever does happen (it will totally happen, some day).
*The issue with TNA during his last run, even though he said he liked it at first, became a disassociation with a lot of the younger talents in the locker room. The schedule was originally great, but the talent complained to agents about matches and booking, and he would just go sit in his car until it was time to wrestle. He ended up going back to WWE, when there was a 3-year contract on the table with TNA, but they never got back to him and he felt under-appreciated.
