7/26 Wrestlezone Recap: Hulk Hogan Dominates the News, WWE Scouting Talent, Top Star Leaves TNA, GFW Launches & More

Bully Ray = GONE

Spike TV's Bully Ray is already gone from TNA, after being announced as the on-screen authority figure of Impact Wrestling last week. Backstage news coming in suggested that Bully wasn’t happy with the way the company was doing things when he came back, and started telling people that he was done.

TNA reps came out and said that it was “all part of the plan”, and they had set it up that way for him to come in once, and then be gone. That is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard, and I literally laughed out loud when I read that article. Guys, if you’re writing an angle, and you bring back Dixie Carter to television to unveil this big BRAND NEW authority figure, and the “PLAN” all along was to bring him in for one week before he left – if that’s even remotely true, the creative powers that be deserve all the negative press and consequences headed their way.

Big Week For Ring of Honor

ring of honorIt was a big week for Ring of Honor as they held their annual “Death Before Dishonor” event broadcast live on IPPV. The highlight of the show was the ROH world title main event between Jay Lethal and Roderick Strong, which went to a 60-minute time limit draw.

The following night ROH taped four episodes of television in Baltimore, Maryland. The Kingdom (Mike Bennett and Matt Taven) seem to be getting a major push following the success of their tours in New Japan, and a four-way tag team program with The Addiction, The Young Bucks, and either reDRagon or a reunited Future Shock is developing which could turn into an incredible match on a future IPPV.

In some not-so-great news, Destination America has apparently pulled the 7PM timeslot on Wednesday nights, leaving them with only the 11PM airing after Impact Wrestling. On paper this cuts their viewership almost in half given recent data, but by taking one away they could conceivably boost viewers to the other, so the actual impact (no pun intended) won’t be known until we get a few weeks of viewership/ratings in the books.
