WWE 2K 3:16
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin was announced as the cover star of the upcoming WWE 2K16 video game, set for release on October 27th. Austin follows John Cena and The Rock, the featured stars in the 2014 and 2013 versions of the game. The official announcement was made early Monday morning followed by a teaser trailer showing the Hall of Famer digging in the desert for his iconic Smoking Skull title belt.
Rumors began circulating months ago that Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler were in the studio recording audio for Steve Austin material related to the game. It was speculated, and now (more or less) confirmed that the 2K16 “Showcase Mode” will be all about the Texas Rattlesnake and his unprecedented run through the Attitude Era.
In addition to Austin being the major marketed legend, 2K has confirmed that this year’s game will feature more than 120 unique characters – more than any other title in WWE games history – which does not include duplicate retro variants. The roster will attempt to include the most up-to-date collection of current WWE Superstars and Divas, with a major push for the lineup of NXT names. And while unconfirmed, there has been rumor and speculation on an ECW Invasion storyline being a part of the game.
