Artist of Champions Celebrates National Wrestling Hall of Fame Induction Weekend with New Collection, Mural
Kansas City, MO—(July 1, 2015) Renowned wrestling artist, Rob Schamberger, also known as the Artist of Champions, returns to Waterloo, IA to celebrate the 2015 induction ceremonies at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum with a new body of work that includes 28 donated paintings and a 12’ x 8’ mural that will be displayed in the museum.
Over the past several weeks, Schamberger has focused on creating a new collection of 28 paintings that depict the 2015 Hall of Fame honorees and past inductees, including Kurt Angle, Verne Gagne, Beth Phoenix, John “Bradshaw” Layfield and many more. Schamberger will donate the full collection to the museum, adding to several pieces of his work that are already on display.
“Having Rob Schamberger’s artwork in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum takes us to the next level,” says Kyle Klingman, director of the museum. “Our museum philosophy is about achieving excellence, and Rob’s work with us is a reflection of that philosophy. We are honored that Rob is involved in such a significant way.”
In the week leading up to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Schamberger will be on-site at the museum painting the 12’ x 8’ mural. Work begins on July 6 and the finished piece will be unveiled on July 11. Additionally, Schamberger will reveal paintings of the 2015 Hall of Fame honorees at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the museum.
Jim Ross, a past Hall of Fame inductee as the winner of the 2011 Lou Thesz award, says Schamberger’s art is a true embodiment of wrestling.
“Rob Schamberger’s paintings evoke the feeling of a Rockwell or a Rembrandt painting Lou Thesz and Danny Hodge,” Ross says. “He creates artistic dream sequences that capture the spirit of professional wrestling.”
For Schamberger, the chance to contribute during such a significant weekend is the stuff of dreams.
“The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum is an incredibly important institution to me personally and, more importantly, to preserving the legacy and importance of wrestling,” Schamberger says. “Every artist dreams of having their work displayed in a museum, and I can’t think of a better one for my work to be in.”
For Hall of Fame weekend attendees interested in adding to their own Schamberger collections, Schamberger will be displaying and selling prints of the 2015 honorees and more at the Impact Wrestling Show on Friday, July 10. For details, visit the full list of events.
