Detailed Recap of Steve Austin & Paul Heyman WWE Network Podcast: Brock Lesnar Returning Soon, CM Punk in UFC, Art of the Promo, Selling Finishers

-Austin asks about promos, and puts over Heyman as the best in the business today. He also praises Kevin Owens. Heyman talks about Dusty Rhodes sending him out in NWA/WCW to end the night. He says he had four minutes, did everything he could to be entertaining and tried to put everyone over, but when he went back through the curtain Dusty asked him, “where’s the money?” The idea is that he went out and was entertaining, but he didn’t sell Starrcade. “Old school is new school, just updated in today’s environment. The one thing you have to think of in everything that you say is, ‘where is the money in this? What am I selling?’ Sometimes all you sell is personality.”

-Heyman tells the story of making his first $50 in the business from Vince McMahon Sr., taking an iconic photo of him with Andre the Giant. He tells the story, which was been told before, about getting his press pass and working Madison Square Garden.

-The two talk about Vince McMahon Sr. and his methods and attitudes, and how different wrestlers and personalities reacted to Vince Jr. taking over the business and his rapid expansionism.

-Heyman says he’s never done a line of cocaine in his entire life, and Austin doesn’t believe him.

-Austin wants to know about the “infamous plane ride from 2006”. This was the event that led to Heyman leaving the company during the rebirth of ECW. Paul doesn’t want to get into the details of the flight, but said it was time for him leave back then. He mentions that ECW was personal for him, and it was just a constant clash of frustration between him and Vince McMahon.
