3/22 Wrestlezone Recap: Final Card for WrestleMania & WWE Hall of Fame, The Passing of Perro Aguayo Jr., New TNA Champs & More

el hijo del perro aguayo35-year-old Pedro Aguayo Ramirez, son of Mexican wrestling legend Perro Aguyo, passed away this week following a match involving former WWE star Rey Mysterio, TJ Perkins and Tigre Uno.

Fan-captured footage shows him taking a dropkick from Mysterio and going limp as soon as his neck hit the second rope. When Rey followed up with a 619, Perkins (TNA X-Division star Manik) sold the move, but Aguayo remained motionless on the ropes. In the video you can see the other two stars scramble outside the ring while Mysterio checked on the fallen wrestler, which quickly led to the trio wrapping up the match.

Conflicting reports began circulating, suggesting a snapped neck or heart failure as the cause of death, but ultimately it was determined that Aguayo suffered a stroke in-ring caused by cervical spinal damage. There has been talk of the case being investigated as accidental manslaughter, but these sorts of situations – while few and far between – generally lead to nothing. Owen Hart’s tragic death in 1999 is an appropriate example of the same.

Aguayo was one of the top heels in AAA, and plans prior to his death would have seen him resume a program with long-time rival Mistico (the original Sin Cara) before having a run a Alberto El Patron (del Rio) and the AAA World Heavyweight Championship.
