A lot of people thought it was a bad idea to convey the idea that John Cena is an “old man” on the roster, and may be fading past his prime as a main event player. Given that Cena is still the #1 pusher of WWE merchandise at every live show and online, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to further distance him from their bread and butter demographic.
In an update to a story that ran last week, it appears WWE may be interested in former UFC star Chael Sonnen as an announcer. It’s not likely they will use him as a full-time wrestler, ala Ken Shamrock during the Attitude Era. Although why not? The extra eyes on the product couldn’t hurt – nobody is going to jump ship to fake wrestling because Chael Sonnen is interviewing somebody backstage, or calling a match.
The WWE Network is coming to the Middle East, and will be expanding its coverage in Canada as well.
