Big E Talks The New Day, Watching ‘Girls’, How To Occupy His Downtime, What Resturant Do They Enjoy On The Road?

wwe smackdownWWE Superstar Big E recently talked to CTNow.com while promoting this Monday’s episode of RAW at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

Big E talked being a part of The New Day, how they pass the time on the road, being a fan of the show ‘Girls’, restaurants they frequent, and more. You can read a few excerpts below:

Big E on how the New Day passes time on the road:

Xavier has this Gaems case. It’s essentially a portable briefcase that has a 19-inch TV, room for your console and anything else you need gaming-wise. All you need to do is plug that case into a wall and everything’s self-contained. It’s actually great for us. We take that on the road with us when we have downtime. It made the European tour for us in November.

We set up a Madden tournament; I think we had eight to 12 guys in this Madden tournament. It was fantastic, so that definitely helps [pass the time]. When I first got on the road, my concern was ‘All I want to do is think about wrestling and doing the best I can,’ but then you start to realize it’s really necessary to have other things you enjoy or other things to keep your mind on because there’s so much that goes on. You just can’t be stuck in the ebbs and flows of wrestling, of match outcomes, so gaming’s been great for us. I consider myself a gamer — not quite to the extent of Woods and Kofi, but it definitely helps us pass some time.

Big E on being a fan of the HBO series ‘Girls’:

Yeah, actually, I don’t want to admit that I like Girls, but a girl I was dating a while ago got me to start watching “Girls.” It’s really well-written and I enjoy that. I went to [the University of] Iowa so I got a little excited that this season takes place at the University of Iowa Writers Workshop, so it’s cool to see some stuff that will be shot in Iowa City, I believe. I’m a little disappointed, actually; I think [the school] banned them from shooting stuff on campus. I was excited to see some of the old buildings that I had classes in on TV, but I think there’s still some stuff shot in Iowa City. Hopefully, [my being a fan of “Girls”] doesn’t kill any lingering street cred.

Where does The New Day like to eat on the road?

We find ourselves stopping at Denny’s a lot. They’ve got a new set of Skillets that really caught our eye, so that’s something to look forward to. For me, it’s a matter of getting as much protein as possible. I try to get about 300 grams of protein a day, and I carry probably about a half-pound of whey protein on the road to supplement in-between meals. For the most part, I try to keep my carbs down and eat a decent amount of protein. On the road, you get used to places that are open after shows at 1 or 2 in the morning, and then trying to eat as clean as possible. I will admit to not having the cleanest of diets, and that’s something I’m working on. Being a thicker human being, protein’s essential [meaning food like] a decent amount of burgers with no bun. Last week, I went to Waffle House and got 14 scrambled eggs. That’s eating on the road for you.
