Following the fantastic presentation of Wrestle Kingdom 9 on pay-per-view last weekend, many readers have been asking how they can see more New Japan content, and if there is a future for the product on U.S. television and/or pay-per-view.
This week, AXS TV will debut its 13-episode run of New Japan Pro Wrestling featuring English commentary from boxing and MMA announcer Mauro Ranallo, and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett. Those who have seen the show in advance have raved about its presentation, particularly where the commentary and match quality are concerned.
AXS TV is channel 340 on DirecTV, 167 on Dish Network, 569 on Verizon FiOS and 1106 on AT&T U-verse. The first episode, set to premiere this Friday night at 9 p.m. ET will feature the 5-star Meltzer rated match between Okada and Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, from Wrestle Kingdom 7 in the Tokyo Dome.
The series (listed as “New Japan Pro Wrestling”) will compile some of the best matches of 2013 and 2014, dubbed with English commentary for the first time ever.
