Chicago, Illinois at Allstate Arena
This was my first live show in years and the first ever for my wife, who is also a lifelong wrestling fan. The atmosphere in the arena was great, but as soon as the doors opened there was disappointment in the merchandise depth – the Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar shirts were going for $55 apiece and the selection was very limited. We literally went online from our seats and ordered the same shirts for 12 bucks a piece with the 50 percent off sale they were advertising on the Tron. Very packed house, only the areas that would usually be behind the screen were empty.
1. Sin Cara defeated Justin Gabriel via pinfall. Sin Cara won after a moonsault side slam. Great match for the kids some cool flying spots, Gabriel really has no charisma but he always performs great. The finish looked really cool from our viewpoint. Post match Wyatt took out both men.
2. Los Matadores and El Torito beat Tyler Breeze, Titus O’Neil and Hornswoggle by pinfall. One of the Matadores pinned Titus following a backstabber. A comedy match for the kids that got some good laughs for lil Horny, who was in his 3MB gear. Breeze was unrecognized by most of the crowd. They began a VIP experience promo before being cut off by Bad News Barrett’s music which popped the crowd big, he teased a match but said he wouldn’t wrestle in such a corrupt city.
3. R-Truth beat Adam Rose. Truth won with a roll up. Truth actually got some good response from the crowd, the what’s up thing is really over with the kids…..and my wife. The match was nothing special but Rose had some decent heat, probably because the bunny was missing.
4. Roman Reigns defeated Rusev by DQ in a U.S. Championship match. Reigns won by DQ after being struck with the belt. Rusev did the call out and before he even finished talking everyone was staring at the gate we thought Reigns would appear from. Huge pop for Reigns mega heat for Rusev and Lana. Reigns hit a spear post match.
5. Natalya, Charlotte and Cameron beat Naomi, Sasha Banks and Summer Rae. Natalya submitted Summer with the sharp shooter. Summer Rae can’t sell to save her life, Charlotte got a lot of woo’s and Nattie is pretty over.
6. New Day (Kofi and Xavier with Big E) beat Goldust & Stardust and Cesaro & Tyson Kidd in a three-way tag match.Woods pinned Stardust. Fun match, a lot of cool flying spots from Kofi and you could hear a pin drop when the new day was introduced. The act has no following out here.
7. Dean Ambrose defeated Bray Wyatt in a Chicago Street Fight. Ambrose scored the pin following Dirty Deeds. Chairs and tables were the stars of the match, Ambrose put Wyatt through two tables and they did the kendo stick corner spot from Raw. Great match from both, Ambrose was super over.
It was a decent house show, my wife loved her first experience and it was a full house. They return to Chicago April 26 for Extreme Rules, the pre-sale password is Extreme. On an interesting note there was only one faint CM Punk chant, I was expecting more from the hometown crowd.
