Complete Recap of Steve Austin’s Vince McMahon Interview: Vince Talks Punk, Current State of WWE, Sting, Heat with JR, Macho Man, The Streak & Much More

Macho Man in the WWE Hall of Fame

Vince says “definitely” when asked if Macho Man will be into the WWE Hall of Fame. Vince says soon, but maybe not this year.

Vince McMahon on Sting

Austin asks him about Sting and Vince says he made a hell of an impression. He says his character is not one you need to see a lot of. He says he wouldn’t be surprised if he appeared at WrestleMania.

Vince says WCW burned out faster than WWE and they gave up. He says territories put themselves out of business. He says everything is competition to WWE now.

Vince Talks Jim Ross

“There is no heat,” when describing if there was tension between him and Jim Ross. He talks about events in Los Angeles and says it was not professional, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they worked together again. Vince says he helped Ross get to where he is as a wrestling mind. He says he paid his dues and Ross worked really hard. He said Ross wanted to go back to Oklahoma and wanted to help some, but could not work to the fullest.

The Magic Between Austin and McMahon

Vince says he understood Austin. He talks about growing up in a trailer park and the common man. He says he knew how Austin thought and how the feud worked. Vince also talks about how he actually is the Austin character in the inside, so he knew how to play opposite that character.

The two joked about Vince’s “athleticism,” and his inability to take the Stunner from Austin, but Austin mentioned that Vince found his “superstardom” as a character when he worked with Austin on TV.

The two talked about the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre cage bump that Vince did, and both agreed it was a crazy spot. Austin then brought up how he bled working with Brian Pillman, and then he brought up the bloody submission finish to Austin’s match against Bret Hart at WrestleMania.

Austin said Bret told him he needed to be bleeding if they were going to do the submission finish because Austin wasn’t a submission expert, and Austin then asked Vince if the finish would work.

With a “no color” policy Austin asked how Vince reacted to the blood spot and Vince said he was pissed off, but it was about what the audience wants, not what he wanted. So he said on the one hand he was pissed because they broke company policy, but at the end of the day it was what the fans wanted.

Is Vince listening to the WWE Universe?

Vince says the future is good for WWE. He says the ratings are holding up, and the company is doing well.

Austin brought up the idea of us being a “short attention span” audience nowadays, and Vince agreed. Vince says he is not out of touch, and that he listens to the audience when he is live in the arena.

Austin asked how people can send feedback and both of them mentioned social media.

Vince wrapped up the interview by saying he works as much as he ever has, he’s healthy, and he admits he knows people say he’s out of touch, but he doesn’t listen to the critics, he listens to the fans. That ended the interview.
