Lesnar/Cena Rivalry Notes

john cenaJust a few interesting notes on the rivalry between Brock Lesnar and John Cena. Most know that one of Cena’s first high profile fights was against then-WWE Champion Brock Lesnar, and the F5 maneuver is actually where Cena took his signature FU finisher from, which later became the Attitude Adjustment.

Lesnar and Cena have faced off five times in singles action, with Brock holding a 4-1 record over the 15-time champion. The first time they faced each other was on an episode of Smackdown in 2002, which Lesnar won. He did so again on Smackdown in 2003, and then again at the 2003 Backlash PPV. John Cena got his one and only singles win over Brock at the 2012 Extreme Rules PPV in Chicago, and then of course lost at SummerSlam last month.

In non-singles action, the two have actually been involved in six other matches, including the 2003 Royal Rumble. Cena was on the winning Survivor Series team in 2003, picking up a win over Lesnar, A-Train, Matt Morgan, Nathan Jones and Big Show. Perhaps the most interesting note from their rivalry is that the two were forced to team together at one point, winning a match by pinfall over both Kurt Angle and The Undertaker.
