Nielsen To Expand Definition of TV Viewing, Raw Affected

The Nielsen Co.'s plans to expand how they measure TV ratings are detailed in a new report by The Hollywood Reporter. The new comprehensive strategy will redefine their definition of TV viewing to include all video viewing devices, including iPads, X-Box, Netflix and more.

The decision to expand beyond traditional TV ratings standards was the result of a meeting held last Tuesday by the What Nielsen Measures Committee. The group has been meeting for nearly a year and is made up of representatives for major TV networks, local stations, cable networks, advertising agencies and some big brand advertisers.

Nielsen plans to begin phases of this strategy by September when the next TV season begins.

Currently, if you watch WWE Raw on a tablet, X-Box, or even Hulu Plus, Nielsen doesn't have a way of measuring those statistics. This new plan is meant to correct that problem and will be a major step forward in how TV ratings are measured in the future.
