Lengthy Update On ROH’s TV Situation In Canada

Credit goes to Adam Lebow for the following …

ROH on Sinclair will be on WNYO-DT (My TV – Buffalo) at 9pm ET on Saturdays. This station is distributed digitally by Rogers Cable across the BDU’s entire network in Ontario on channel 167. That means the show will be first run in Toronto, Ottawa and London Ontario. However WNYO is NOT distributed (as best I can tell) by either Cogeco Cable, Eastlink Cable, Shaw Cable or Source Cable (Hamilton, Muskoka, Niagara Falls, St. Catherines, Ft. Erie, Chattam, Windsor).

However, WNYO is also readily available over-the-air from its broadcast transmitter in Wyoming, NY (suburb of Buffalo) on channel 49 in the golden-horseshoe of Ontario, which includes Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, St. Catherines and Ft. Erie. So although some of the local BDUs may not have WNYO, the station can be had via an outdoor UHF antenna.

Now, a replay of the broadcast will also air on WUTV-DT (FOX – Buffalo) at 11pm on Sundays. This station is distributed on analog by Rogers Cable ONLY in the Toronto area. So Toronto will get two runs of the show. That also means Ottawa and London will not get the broadcast as their Rogers FOX affiliate is served by WJBK-DT (FOX – Detroit). So the only time Ottawa and London will get the show will be on Saturdays.

Like WNYO, WUTV is readily available over-the-air from its broadcast transmitter in Grand Island, NY (suburb of Buffalo) on channel 14 (PSIP remaps to 29) in the golden-horseshoe of Ontario, which includes Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, St. Catherines and Ft. Erie.

Now here is where it gets tricky. Eastlink Cable (in the Muskoka/Halibutron area) and Cogeco Cable (in the Windsor and Chattam area) also use the WJBK-DT feed in Ontario for FOX. So they are all SOL. But Cogeco, Shaw and Source Cable all have WUTV available in analog for the Hamilton, Niagara Falls, St. Cathrines and Ft. Erie areas. So although those areas won’t get the show on Saturdays by their respective local cable BDU (although they will OTA), they will get the show on Sundays.

Now, outside of Ontario, WUTV is distributed by Rogers in analog in Newfoundland (St. Johns) and New Brunswick (Fredericton). Areas not serviced by Rogers are primarily served by Eastlink in Newfoundland and Newbrunswick. These areas will also get ROH on Sinclair, but instead of getting it from WUTV or WNYO, they will get it in analog from WUHF-DT (FOX – Rochester) on Sundays at 1:30 a.m. (EASTERN, so that works out to 2:30 a.m. ATLANTIC and 3:00 a.m. Newfoundland time). So pretty much all of Newfoundland and New Brunswick will have access to the show from their local cable BDU, since the territory is split between Rogers and Eastlink, except for a few small towns along the Quebec/New Brunswick/New Foundland boarder, which are serviced by Quebec BDUs that don’t have any of the aforementioned channels in their lineups.

On top of all that, WUHF is also available on Shaw Direct, which is the #2 satellite company (based on subscribers) in all of Canada. As one would expect, their signal is available nationally. Moreover, all of Shaw cable’s territories west of Ontario, all the way to Vancouver, B.C., get WUHF but only on digital cable. So Vancouver will get the show Saturdays at 10:30 p.m. PACIFIC. Some of the smaller/local cable BDUs in Canada who subscribe to the Shaw Broadcast Services also distribute the WUHF feed as their east coast FOX station on a case-by-case basis. There are way too many of these to try to list.

WUHF is also available over-the-air, although not as easily receivable as WNYO or WUTV – for those who either (1) live along Lake Ontario to the north of Rochester, so areas from Oshawa-to-Prince Edward Peninsula, or (2) live near the Ontario/NY boarder, so St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Ft. Erie. The station is available from its broadcast transmitter in Rochester on channel 28 (PSIP remaps to 31).

Also Bell TV (the No. 1 satellite company) does not have any of the Sinclair stations (they go with Boston (east) and Seattle (west) feeds). So their subs are SOL unless they can get an over-the-air feed.
