There have been a number of meetings at WWE Headquarters in Connecticut this week about the ECW ‘One Night Stand’ PPV. At this point, the consensus is that WWE should aim for a balance between wrestlers who can actually deliver in the ring and older talents that can draw a crowd, despite not being able to wrestle as well as in the past.
WWE hopes to avoid a purely nostalgic program, with the possible intention of creating an entity that can stand on its own. There has been at least some talk of running more PPVs or house shows in old ECW markets. Before rumors get out of hand, WWE is not planning to bring the brand back permanently, but the strong DVD sales indicate that there could be more reach to the product than a single PPV. The success of the PPV on 6/12 will largely determine WWE’s course for Extreme Championship Wrestling.
