WWE Smackdown! Results – 2/3/06
Orlando, Florida
WWE Smackdown! Opener:
Smackdown! opened up with video stills from this past Sunday’s Royal Rumble with Kurt Angle retaining his WWE Championship against Mark Henry, and then being confronted by the Undertaker. The fireworks then went off in the arena for the start of the show as Michael Cole and Tazz welcome us to Smackdown! Tonight, Chris Benoit faces Booker T for the United States Title, and Kurt Angle teams with Rey Mysterio to face Mark Henry and Randy Orton!
In the arena:
The music of Theodore Long hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring as the General Manager of Smackdown. Long got on the mic and said last Sunday night, the Royal Rumble was full of surprises. The Undertaker surprised Kurt Angle after a successful title defense against Mark Henry and made an official challenge, and therefore at No Way Out we will see one of the biggest matches in Smackdown history when Kurt Angle defends his WWE Championship against the Undertaker! Another surprise was the winner of the Royal Rumble itself. Long then introduces us to the ultimate underdog and the man who started at number two and survived 29 other superstars, the man who dedicated his performance to Eddie Guerrero…a large “Eddie” chant started up as the man who won the Royal Rumble and who will go on to compete for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, Rey Mysterio! Rey made his way down the aisle in a low rider and was given a great reaction by the crowd. Rey embraced Long and then took the mic. The fans chanted “Eddie, Eddie” and Rey says he wants to say one thing, thank you Eddie! Rey said Eddie will always live in his heart and he hopes he made him proud, and he hopes he makes him even more proud when he goes to WrestleMania and wins the World Heavyweight Championship! Rey says he has to admit that he don’t change, and he got him by making him being number two, he bets he was laughing his head off. The music of the Legend Killer then hit as Randy Orton made his way down the aisle.
Orton got on the mic and the crowd booed. Orton said they Rey is right, Eddie was laughing his ass off, but he wasn’t laughing with you, he was laughing at you! Orton said he knows as well as Eddie knows, and all the people know that Rey is in no position to be in the main event at WrestleMania. Orton said there must have been some sort of divine intervention because there is no way in hell that Rey would have won on his own. Rey said intervention or not, he is the one who tossed Orton over the top rope. Orton said that in this ring, in a wrestling match, he would own Rey. He would beat and destroy him like that. Orton said as lightening can’t strike twice, he challenges Rey. The fans chanted “you suck” towards Orton and Rey said he’s glad he’s not the only person who thinks Orton sucks. Orton said he challenges Rey for his main event spot at WrestleMania. Orton asked why Rey was hesitating, and to answer him. The fans chanted “Eddie, Eddie” as Rey looked up to the skies. Orton said that Rey is looking to the heavens for Eddie, but Eddie ain’t in heaven, Eddie’s down there, in hell! Rey then gave Orton a low blow and hammered away at Orton and Rey is incensed. Referee’s hit the ring to break things up but Rey wouldn’t stop his assault on Orton. Orton bailed the outside as the referee’s held Rey down. That comment was tasteless to say the least.

In the arena:
JBL is in the ring and says that he is a wrestling god and he doesn’t belong in the ring with a monster or a freak named the Boogeyman. He is in the same line as Lou Thesz, jack Brisco and Mil Mascaras. He is a wrestler and deserves to be in a wrestling ring. He is sick of being stuck in cage matches with people who don’t belong in this ring, and just because they have the look, to get a rub off of him. He said you put anybody in the ring with him and make them a star. He said he isn’t wrestling any more freaks or monsters, just because WWE knows you can put him in the ring with a broomstick because he is a wrestling god! The music of Bobby Lashley then hit as he made his way out of his match, and JBL is none too happy that he is being interrupted by this next match.
Referee: Charles Robinson

In the arena:
Darkness filled the arena as the music of the Undertaker hit! Smoke filled the entrance way as he made his way down to the ring, and he will face Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Championship at No Way Out! The Undertaker got on the mic as the crowd cheered the Deadman. The Undertaker said that the time is drawing near for Kurt Angle, and there’s no way out. He said that Angle possesses the one thing he desires, the World Heavyweight Championship. The music of Kurt Angle then hit as he made his way to the ring as the World Heavyweight Champion! Angle got face to face with the Undertaker and said that he needs to make one thing clear, the Undertaker has proven time and time again to be unstoppable, but he’s proven time and time again to be the best in the world. Taker makes people scream, but he makes people tap. The Undertaker may be the Phenom, but he’s a wrestling machine. They don’t have much in common, but when that bell rings, Angle doesn’t have a soul either. He said at No Way Out, he doesn’t plan in resting in piece, he plans on breaking his ankle in pieces! The Undertaker said he has no doubt that Angle’s intentions are truthful, but there is one reality not even Angle can escape; at No Way Out, you will rest in piece! The arena filled with darkness and then a purple light filled the ring and the Undertaker has disappeared! Angle wondered where the hell he’d gone as we go to commercial.

Kennedy said he knows who Booker’s replacement is tonight and that will be the toughest break of all. Benoit said he doesn’t give a damn who Booker has chosen to be his replacement, and the next time Kennedy gets this close to Benoit, the only tough break that will happen will be his arm.
