SHIMMER TICKETS AT AAW THIS SATURDAY, OCT. 4TH!

——————————————————————

This is more of a note for those of you who attend the SHIMMER tapings live. Previously, the SHIMMER pre-show matches (which take place between when we open doors and the official bell time) have consisted of a combination of male wrestlers from AAW and the occasional YouTube match designed to be placed online.

Beginning on October 19th, we are going to start adding some women’s matches on SPARKLE, in an effort to take a look at some new female talent for potential appearances on future20SHIMMER DVDs. Though the roster has become loaded (and some may say overloaded) with such a large number of wrestlers, we’d like to continue to give opportunities to new talent. Adding women’s matches to SPARKLE will serve that purpose, as well as help us evaluate new talent in the process.

If you’re attending the October 19th taping live, be sure to get there prior to bell time for SPARKLE if you want to catch all of the women appearing on the event.

Discuss the addition of women’s matches to SPARKLE in the following thread at The SHIMMER Forum…

SHIMMER TICKETS AT AAW THIS SATURDAY, OCT. 4TH!

——————————————————————

Our promotional partners at AAW present “Reign of Violence” this Saturday night, 10/4, at the Berwyn Eagles Club. We will have general admission tickets to the 10/19 SHIMMER taping available at the front ticket table during intermission of the AAW event for anyone who wants to pick them up in person on Saturday. Here are all the details for the AAW event…

This Saturday, October 4th, the road to the “Windy City Classic IV” begins as AAW presents “Reign of Violence.” The show features a huge AAW Heavyweight title match and the debuts of three masked men courtesy of Chikara as Jim Lynam continues to to bring in new and exciting talent. Let’s take a closer look at the card.

AAW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

TYLER BLACK (c)

vs

JOEY MATTHEWS

Joey Matthews made waves last month when he announced he is on his way back to WWE in January of 2009. He also vowed that before he left AAW he would take out Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black to prove they would never belong in the “big leagues”. Matthews would go on to defeat Jacobs later on that night and then crossed the line when he placed Jacobs neck in a steel chair and was going to end his career. Tyler Black made the save and immediately signed the contract to face Matthews this Saturday for the title. There is so much at stake for Black as Matthews has promised once he wins the AAW title belt he will promptly throw it in the trash where it belongs. Black has a long list of challengers in front of him but he must not look past the dangerous Joey Matthews this Saturday.

SIX MAN TAG TEAM MATCH

JOEY EASTMAN WORLDWIDE

ARIK CANNON/ RYAN CRUZ/ MASON BECK w/ Joey Eastman

vs

BRETT GAKIYA/ CJ ESPARZA/ NICK BRUBAKER

Joey Eastman added a ton of gold to his stable last month as The Northstar Express won the AAW tag titles and Arik Cannon captured the Heritage belt. Now with Darrin Corbin on the injured list Eastman’s enforcer Mason Beck steps in as J.E.W.W. takes on the exciting youngsters from central Illinois in a six man tag match. Gakiya, Esparza and Brubaker have wowed fans since their debut with their high flying style and look to further impress this weekend. Eastman has promised to teach the AAW newcomers a lesson and his team will now have a big strength advantage with the addition of Mason Beck who will be competing in his highest profile match in AAW to date.

TAG TEAM MATCH

THE PHOENIX TWINS

Tweek and Dash Phoenix

vs

THE OSIRIAN PORTAL

Amasis and Ophidian

An exciting tag match just signed hours ago as AAW fan favorites The Phoenix Twins take on the mysterious Osirian Portal. It’s no secret that the Twins are still looking for revenge on Joey Eastman and the Northstar Express but Eastman seems to have one upped the Twins yet again with a restraining order prohibiting them from getting close to the Tag Team Champions. Chikara’s Osirian Portal look to make a big splash in their AAW debuts and this unorthodox team will present a style AAW fans have never seen. Will Tweek and Dash continue to roll through the competition in the tag team division or will Amasis and Ophidian find a way to overcome the Twins?

JUST SIGNED

JIMMY JACOBS

vs

JOSH RAYMOND

A battle of two top contenders in AAW as the arrogant Josh Raymond takes on Jimmy Jacobs. Jacobs endeared himself to the AAW fans last month as he stood up and defended the company against the comments of Joey Matthews. Raymond revealed his new love to be none other than the mother of Silas Young’s unborn child Valerie Malone. While both men have other issues going on in AAW you can bet they will be ready to do battle this Saturday as the winner will no20doubt jump up in the rankings. These two Michigan natives are no strangers to one another and fans should expect an evenly matched and exciting bout.

CHALLENGE MATCH

CHANDLER MCCLURE w/ Candi Summers

vs

KROTCH w/ Nikki

A match that came about when McClure tried making friends with Krotch in an effort to get a shot at the Heritage title. Krotch has since lost the belt to Arik Cannon and McClure is not happy. This match will have an impact on the top ten rankings and both men need a win. Be on the lookout for fireworks outside the ring in this one as well as Krotch’s sister Nikki and McClure’s personal trainer Candi Summers will both be at ringside.

THOUGHTS UPON COMPLETING PRODUCTION ON 19 & 20

——————————————————————

We’ve completed production on Volumes 19 and 20 of the SHIMMER DVD series, and they are being sent off to be manufactured this week. Ring of Honor should have them available in early October, and we’ll have copies of both at the SHIMMER taping on October 19th in Berwyn, IL.

I’m very pleased with how these two releases turned out, particularly Volume 20, which I feel is one of the top three DVDs20we’ve ever produced. Many thanks20to our editor David Puente for his work on these releases. He’s one of the unsung heroes of SHIMMER’s success as a DVD product. Everyone just really delivered in their given roles on these two DVDs, from the top of the card all the way to the bottom.

The last five matches of the Volume 20 DVD are possibly the best 90 minutes or so of back to back matches we’ve ever had on one of our shows.

Ashley Lane & Nevaeh vs. The International Home Wrecking Crew is another solid tag team bout as the tag scene heats up in preparation for crowning the first SHIMMER Tag Team Champions on October 19th. Jetta and Rain work so well as a heel tandem, while Ashley and Nevaeh are really turning into the Rock & Roll Express of our tag team division. This match sets the stage quite well as we head into the gauntlet on the next show.

Nikki Roxx vs. Ariel in a battle of two friends, each looking to accomplish different goals in SHIMMER here in 2008. This is a standout performance for Ariel to go alongside her memorable contest against Amazing Kong back on Volume 17. Nikki having returned to SHIMMER, wanting to work herself back into the main event mix after her hiatus, against Ariel who has been here all along and just wants to elevate herself to main event level competition, in the same way Nikki did a year and a half prior.

What then follows are the three best back to back matches we’ve ever put on, each for different=2 0reasons.

Serena Deeb=2 0vs. Sara Del Rey is an incredible display of determination and courage. The seemingly unstoppable Del Rey, so much more intense and vicious since losing the SHIMMER Championship, trying to plow through everyone on the roster until she gets her rematch for the title, against one of the most underrated workers on the roster who refuses to back down. Del Rey destroys Serena’s knee in relentless fashion, both in the ring and out on the floor, but even with only one good leg, Serena shows her heart and battles through the pain. We always compare Serena’s armdrags to Ricky Steamboat’s. So many things about this match will draw just as many Steamboat comparisons, but for Serena’s other attibutes as a pro wrestler, not just the armdrags. This is one of my favorite matches we’ve ever promoted.

We go from monster heel vs. determined babyface to an intense strong style battle between two of the net’s favorite hard hitters in Cheerleader Melissa vs. LuFisto. The fans who were there live have already hyped this match to an insane degree. The final two minutes of the match are simply electric, similar to MsChif vs. Kong back on Volume 9.

The main event of the evening is the perfect mix of brutality and technical wrestling skill, all wrapped into one match deserving of the main event spot on a show like this. Mercedes Martinez, on the heels of being the first wrestler to pin Sara Del Rey in SHIMMER, then immediately forced onto the disabled list for over a year, and now undefeated since her=2 0return, gets a shot at the belt she feels would have been hers if she had been healthy at the time of the title tournament. MsChif is out to prove that her title win against Del Rey was not a fluke and she will continue to reign as the top wrestler in the SHIMMER ranks. Both women are willing to put their bodies through unbelievable physical punishment to give the fans their money’s worth, and they do just that in this match, which sees Martinez bruise and bloody the chest of the champion with some of the most sickening chops imagineable.

In addition to that string of matches on the second half of the DVD which just flow so well, the undercard of Volume 20 also does their job quite well, with each of the performers coming through in their own way. The Canadian Ninjas returning to tag team competition against Allison Danger and Jennifer Blake in a match set up on the previous DVD, which sees Perez continue to be one of the standout personalities on our shows, with some of the most amusing mic work and shenanigans ever seen. Daffney returning to action as a wrestler after a hiatus to try to gut through her recurring knee injuries against a larger, hungry new addition to the roster in Cat Power. Danyah trying to battle the odds against Amazing Kong. Top to bottom, Volume 20 is just one of the DVDs in the series of which I am happiest with the finished product, and I hope you all agree when you get a chance to see it in a few weeks.

Volume 19, though it20will likely be overlooked in comparison to how strong 20 is, has more than its share of standout matches and memorable moments as well.

The first SHIMMER battle royal in company history, featuring 21 of the athletes on the roster entering the bout every 30 seconds, Rumble style. Nicole Matthews having her breakout singles match in SHIMMER against Nikki Roxx (Nikki… ROXX. Nicole… SUCKS. Wrestling… YAAAYY). LuFisto vs. Rain in a match that is as amusing for various reasons as it sounds on paper. Another gutsy outing by Ariel against the intimidating “new” Sara Del Rey.

Cheerleader Melissa vs. Mercedes Martinez in a clinic that will easily be ranked in everyone’s top 5 SHIMMER matches once it gets viewed by the masses on DVD. Both women really show in this match why they are two of the major players in women’s pro wrestling in 2008.

Jetta being given a huge opportunity/test to show how versatile she can be if put in an unfamiliar role, and not only delivering the comedy through her over the top personality, but also some great wrestling in the process.

Upon completing all of the production work on these two releases, several things became clear to me.

The first is just what a true MVP Mercedes Martinez is. Two incredible matches, each upwards of twenty minute s in length, and she was still ready for more at the end of the final match of the taping. I don’t think you’ll find a harder working woman in pro wrestling today than Mercedes.

The second is just how much many of the SHIMMER mainstays who have been here from the start have matured into top flight wrestlers here in 2008. Wrestlers like Kong, Melissa, Nikki, Mercedes, MsChif, and Del Rey truly carry themselves like stars and display that confidence that oftentimes is sorely lacking in female performers in North America.

Third, the newer additions to the SHIMMER family are really coming into their own as performers, developing a following, and carving their own niche on our shows. I’ll give some specific examples.

Anyone who wrote off Ashley Lane for being too small and looking too much like a diva when she first arrived can eat their words now that she and Nevaeh have shown what they are capable of as a tag team force. It is possible to have a small frame, look good, and also deliver athletically as a wrestler.

Though one of the least experienced wrestlers of the bunch, Jennifer Blake has begun to win over the fans with her explosive “Girl Dynamite” repertoire of suicide dives, dropkicks on the floor, and crazy bumps. If this is what we see out of a talent like Jen in only her second year as a wrestler, the future looks very bright for Girl Dynamite.

Portia Perez has inexplicably used a combination of kosher pickles, chocolate chip cookies, being=2 0Canadian, appearing to look underage, and somehow also being a ninja who happens to wear pink stars and says “frickin” a lot, to become one of the most over characters on the show. Ho w in the hell…?

Nicole Matthews could have easily become an afterthought and “just Portia’s partner” alongside all of that, but she has instead contantly delivered with her own entertaining crowd interaction and wrestling skills, both in singles matches apart from Perez, and as part of the Canadian Ninjas tag team as well.

All the while, we’re seeing several wrestlers through their strong outings and constant progression as wrestlers working their way into top of the card positions.

LuFisto capturing everyone’s attention and having one of the most talked about matches in recent memory.

Ariel, who has been a staple of the undercard for the vast majority of SHIMMER’s existence, elevating herself through matches against the likes of Kong, Del Rey, and Roxx.

Jetta doing much more than just filling Lacey’s void by not only becoming a solid tag team partner of Rain in the IHWC, but also proving that she can come through in a key singles role as well… as someone who holds the attention of the audience based on more than just KOOL MOVEZ~!

Serena Deeb displaying that having such an understanding of the fundamentals of wrestling (as taught to her so effectively at OVW) is one of the most important parts of being a great pro wrestler. She has the necessary foundation to20be one of the top performers of this generation, and WWE has seriously missed the boat in not yet signing her to a developmental contract.

In all, this is a very exciting tim e to witness the growth of each of the women athletes of SHIMMER, and these next two DVDs in the series really set the stage for an exciting taping coming up on October 19th in suburban Chicago.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support of our athletes, and our product. Without you, these shows would not be possible!

PINK LADIES TO PARTICIPATE IN TAG TEAM TITLE GAUNTLET!

——————————————————————

Much like the SHIMMER Championship Tournament featured an international wildcard competitor making her SHIMMER debut as part of the tournament field, the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship Gauntlet will also have an international wildcard team entered into the mix.

Unlike Sarah Stock, who was kept a mystery until the day of the event, the international wildcard tag team gunning for the SHIMMER Tag Team Titles can now be revealed. Like Stock one year ago, this foreign duo has the opportunity to demonstrate in their SHIMMER debuts that they are championship material.

MADISON “The Punisher” EAGLES & JESSIE “The Body” McKAY, collectively known as “The Pink Ladies,” head all the way from20Sydney, Australia to enter SHIMMER competition, and will debut on Sunday, October 19th in Berwyn, IL!

MADISON EAGLES – Height: 6’1″ Weight: 70 kgs. Hometown: Sydney, Australia. Pro Debut: November 2001. Known as the queen of Australian wrestling, Madison has established herself as one of the most dominant wrestlers in her home country. With almost seven years of pro experience under her belt, Madison has a reputation of being able to back up her tough as nails attitude. In addition to being a standout wrestler, she is also co-owner of PWA Australia, and the founder/owner of the only all women’s wrestling company in Australia, the PWWA (Pro Wrestling Women’s Alliance). A former four time IWA (Australia) Women’s Champion, Madison has travelled to the United States previously to compete for the Ohio based Heartland Wrestling Association. Her signature maneuvers include a springboard moonsault called the Soaring Eagle, as well as a Death Valley Driver to the knee called Hell Bound.

JESSIE McKAY – Height: 5’10” Weight: 60 kgs. Hometown: Sydney, Australia. Pro Debut: June 2007. Prepared for professional wrestling at the PWA training school, Jessie is the current PWWA Champion. Though she has just over one year of pro experience thus far, McKay has already competed across Australia for multiple organizations in addition to PWA & PWWA, including RCW, AWP, PWA Canberra, and PWA Queensland. Jessie is known for utilizing a sitout Uranage called the Boyfriend Stealer, a standing octopus stretch, and the Yakuza kick in her repertoire.

As a tag team combination, Eagles & McKay traditionally finish off their opponents with a wheelbarrow/Ace Crusher double team maneuver.

An international team unfamiliar to the vast majority of the SHIMMER roster, The Pink Ladies are truly a wildcard team thrown into the mix with the established SHIMMER tag teams. There is no telling how they will factor into the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship Gauntlet on October 19th.

MISS NATURAL DEBUTS OCTOBER 19TH!

——————————————————————

Midwest women’s wrestling veteran MISS NATURAL will make her debut for SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES on Volumes 21 & 22 of the DVD series at the Berwyn Eagles Club (6309 26th Street) in Berwyn, IL on Sunday, October 19th.

MISS NATURAL – Height: 5’4″ Weight: 145 lbs. Hometown: Golden Valley, MN. Pro Debut: 2000. This eight year veteran of professional wrestling comes to SHIMMER with a decided advantage over many of the recent additions to the roster, most of whom are generally new to the sport. Heavily influenced by Curt Hennig’s wrestling reper toire, M iss=2 0Natural’s training background includes instruction from both Ken Patera and Harley Race to prepare her for battle inside the squared circle.

Natural’s no nonsense, traditional wrestling style has earned her numerous titles throughout the midwest, including the WLW Ladies Championship in Missouri. The first half of 2008 saw Miss Natural feud with current SHIMMER Champion MsChif over the WLW Ladies Championship in a series of bouts on shows promoted by Harley Race. Natural’s signature maneuvers include the Natural Disaster, a fisherman’s neckbreaker into a bridge.

STATEMENT FROM DANGER ABOUT PEREZ, HER FUTURE

——————————————————————

Allison Danger sent me the following statement to include in this morning’s SHIMMER news release.

When I broke my collarbone at the Volume 17 taping, the doctor told me I would be out for 6-8 weeks to heal before I could consider training, or even entertain the idea of returning to the ring. I saw that timetable as the ultimate challenge. I set a goal for myself to be ready to fight. July 5th, I would be back at SHIMMER. Three days after I got out of the hospital, I was back at the gym and doing cardio. Three weeks later, my sling was wadded up in a ball on the floor of my laundry room, and I was pushing myself through lap after lap at the pool. It was grueling, but I was determined.

July 5th came, and I walked into the Eagles Club feeling good, feeling ready. After falling short in the battle royal, I was pleased to see I would be facing Jennifer Blake, a young Canadian wrestler who I20saw great potential in. Jen and I got in the ring and she gave me the fight that I craved. I tweaked my collarbone in the process, but was able to pull out the win. Allison Danger was back, until Portia Perez crossed my path. She and her school yard bu ddy Nicole Matthews chose to interrupt their snack time to issue a tag team challenge to myself and Jennifer Blake for Volume 20, to prove who the most dominant Canadians are in SHIMMER. Fast forward to the closing minutes of the match. Blake has Nicole on the outside of the ring, thus enabling me to cut off Portia and prepare to put her in recess once and for all. However, a wayward kick catches me where I broke my collarbone and I am down. I try to push through it, but a Fujiwara armbar forces me to submit. Seconds separated me from having a second broken collarbone. Portia took advantage of a freak opportunity and could have left it like that. I would have had to lick my wounds and admit to myself that I returned too early. But she chose to take it one step further. Chose to viciously attack me with a Divorce Court. Chose to try and make her name at my expense. Chose to openly mock me and claim that she ended my career. She chose the wrong person.

I walked out of the Eagles Club a changed woman. I no longer cared about working my way up to title contention. My only SHIMMER goal was to face Portia Perez one on one. I wanted nothing more than to return for October 19th fully headled and ready to=2 0even the score, but fate has saved you one more time, Portia. A new, higher priority has arisen and will take me out of the ring for at least the next year. But while I concentrate on this next generation of SHIMMER wrestler, do not think for one second that I have forgotten you. Your false sense of security will be your greatest downfall. When I do return, my only focus will be hunting you down and making you pay. Portia Perez, I am coming for you Ninja!
