In a post on his facebook page for TNA referee & wrestler "Glamor Boy" Shane Sewell said goodbye to TNA. Sewell was recently released as we reported.
Sewell was brought into TNA initially as a referee in an angle (referre that becomes a wrestler) that had been planned well before it actually happened but ended up delayed due to work visa issues. Sewell is Canadian. Once he came in the focus of his angle as Shiek Bashir. He did the wrestling angle, then briefly returned to the ref spot, then was not used as a ref even though he was doing a good job, in theory because he was going to wrestle, but that did not end up happened and his contract was not renewed (released).
TNA did a ref as wrestler spot once before with for WWE & TNA ref, Mike Posey, where Posey ended up in a program with David Young that started in Nashville, and was briefly continued when tapings were moved to Orlando. Other TNA refs have wrestled in one off matches too.
Sewell said:
As I am sure that most of you have read or heard over the past weekend, I am no longer working with TNA Wrestling. There’s really not too much to tell you other than my contract with TNA was up for renewal, and unfortunately we just couldn’t come to amicable terms for a new deal. Both sides really did try to make it work.
It was just business, and no painful behind-the-scenes drama.
About being a ref he wrote:
As for my time with TNA, I have to tell you that having the opportunity to work with Earl Hebner was one of the greatest experiences of my entire career. I absolutely loved every minute of working as a referee alongside Earl and the rest of the guys. It gave me the chance to experience the matches in an entirely new way. I leave with such great memories, and knowing that I am forever indebted to Earl for sharing his years of knowledge and experience with me. Thank you Earl.
And he added this interesting tidbit which may be a setup for Booker T to visit Puerto Rico
So what’s next??? Well to start with, I am going to be working regularly back in my beautiful adopted homeland of Puerto Rico. A place where I don’t need a cheap knock-off belt to be called a legend. A country where my years of blood, sweat and tears for the wrestling business and it’s fans have already EARNED that legends status for me. A place where I can’t wait to go toe-to-toe with some of the visiting “Main-Eventers” while they’re away from the safety of their network TV script-writers and back room politics… Can you dig THAT???
