Final ROH Video Wire
http://www.youtube.com/watch?
Ring of Honor has come a long way since “The Era of Honor Begins” on February 23, 2002 back in the Murphy Rec. Featuring a bout between Eddie Guerrero & Super Crazy, the show was main evented by Christopher Daniels, Low Ki, and Bryan Danielson as they tore the roof off and gave fans a taste of what was in store for them in ROH.
As the years passed, the ROH faithful have seen a little bit of everything at our anniversary events. The 1st year saw a riot breakout courtesy of the heated rivalry between Steve Corino & Homicide and Xavier pull one out over Paul London while the 2nd anniversary saw AJ Styles crowned Pure Champion while Low Ki, Samoa Joe, Dan Maff, and BJ Whitmer battled for the ROH World Title. Year 3 was spread out over three events and included Austin Aries defending his title against both Colt Cabana & Samoa Joe, Homicide & Bryan Danielson continue their Best of 5 Series, as well as the debut of James Gibson against the return of Spanky! Our 4th anniversary brought the Briscoes back into the fold while the CZW war raged on, while our “5th Year Festival” saw us bid farewell to Samoa Joe as Takeshi Morishima began his path of destruction as champion. Our 6th year was highlighted by one of the best matches in ROH history between Bryan Danielson & Nigel McGuinness, while year 7 brought KENTA, Colt Cabana, & Jimmy Rave back to ROH competition. Last year marked the crowning of Tyler Black as ROH World Champ as well as the war between Kevin Steen, Colt Cabana, El Generico, and Steve Corino in its infancy. That’s only a tiny sampling of what has come before, with too many highlights to list them all. What memories and moments will ROH’s “9th Anniversary Show” put down in history as we broadcast live on GoFightLive.TV?
ROH World Title Match- No Holds Barred Barrio Street Fight
Roderick Strong with Truth Martini defends vs. Homicide
“The Notorious 187” Homicide returned to Ring of Honor during the closing moments of “Glory by Honor IX” as Roderick Strong was celebrating with his newly won World Title. The former champion got into the new Champ’s face and essentially told him he was coming for the belt. After years of pursuing the belt, Strong had finally won it, and here was Homicide ruining his moment. From that moment on, Homicide made his intentions clear: running through every opponent ROH placed in his path as he fought to earn his title match. Jay & Mark Briscoe, Necro Butcher, Kevin Steen, among others all fell victim to the Rottweiler as he looked to prove he deserved a shot at the belt he lost in 2007. Just the same, Roderick has proven himself as a champion with victories over Christopher Daniels, Davey Richards, Jay Briscoe, and El Generico in the months since he captured the belt. Some of them above board, the Generico bout in particular less so, but he still stands as the champion and heads into his 5th title defense this Saturday night. Homicide feels this is his moment to reclaim the belt he never had a rematch for while Strong feels disrespected and humiliated by “The Notorious 187”. This bout was anyone’s game; and now with the match being contested under “Barrio Street Fight” rules, the question of who has the advantage is even less clear. Street fights are right up Homicide’s alley, but the House of Truth now has permission to get involved if Truth finds it necessary. Who will head on to “Manhattan Mayhem IV” to defend the title next month? It’s anyone’s guess…
World Tag Team Title Match
The Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli) with Shane Hagadorn defend vs. The All Night Express (Rhett Titus & Kenny King)
The upstarts versus the veterans, the new blood versus royal blood, however you choose to look at it, this is a battle of two men aiming to prove they belong at the top of the sport. Rhett Titus & Kenny King earned this shot after beating Colt Cabana & El Generico several months ago, and since then have been on a tear to elevate themselves and prove it’s all about “business before pleasure”. Impressing against all the competition they have faced, the ANX have shown no fear, and have even turned some of their jeers into cheers. They are ready to go toe-to-toe with the, arguably, best tag team in the world today and become the champions they have always been told they should be. As for the KoW, they have shattered the Briscoes record as longest title holders, now clocking in at 320-plus days, and have defeated every tag team ROH has to offer, as well as some from outside the company. Well, every team but the ANX. The KoW didn’t eliminate the Express at “Tag Wars 2010”, and there was no ruling in the 8-man tag. Most recently Kenny King pinned Chris Hero in singles bouts, forcing the KoW to play the numbers game after the bout and assault the ANX. So which team will go forward as the champions? Will King & Titus be the ones to dethrone the Kings, or will Chris & Claudio continue to reign supreme?
World TV Title Match- 2/3 Falls with a 30 Minute Time Limit
Christopher Daniels defends vs. Eddie Edwards
Eddie Edwards reigned as the first, and only, ROH World TV Champion from March of 2010 until December of 2010 when “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels bested him in Louisville, KY during an “ROH on HDNet” TV taping. The bout initially went to a draw, but Edwards refused to let it end like that and demanded five more minutes to settle things. Unfortunately for the American Wolf, the additional time worked in Daniels’ favor and he captured the first singles title of his ROH tenure. For the second time in a row, “Supercard of Honor V” being the first, Daniels beat Edwards. Still, all parties involved agreed to a rematch with Edwards stating that “No man can beat me twice in one night”, and putting the 2/3 Falls stipulation on the table. Daniels & ROH officials accepted and added the 30-minute time limit (as opposed to the 15-minute TV time limit) to avoid a repeat of KY. No hatred, no animosity, just two men battling it out to see who is better and who has the right to call themselves champion. And with both men staring at future ROH World Title matches, it will be very interesting to see how this one plays out.
First Time Ever- Dream Tag Team Match
Jay and Mark Briscoe vs. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas
The most decorated team in ROH history, one of the foundations upon which ROH has been built against one of the best tag teams that has ever graced the squared circle. The Briscoes vs. Haas & Benjamin with both teams looking to earn a future shot at the ROH World Tag Titles. Charlie Haas has a past with the Delaware natives, watching the boys grow to men, and for the first time here in ROH, will get to battle with the 6-time champs. Haas & Benjamin have impressed all since debuting at “Glory by Honor IX” in a controversial loss to the KoW, and are hungry to take the belts off the record-setting duo, especially after beating them at “SoCal Showdown II” a few weeks back. The Briscoes are looking to make it lucky number 7 themselves, and beating the WGTT would certainly put them right back into contention. Which team will get the next opportunity at the belts? Will the WGTT prove themselves the better team on Chicago Ridge or will Jay & Mark teach them how to “man up”?
Special Attraction
Colt Cabana vs. Davey Richards
Colt Cabana is looking for pure competition, Davey Richards is looking to hone his skills in preparation for another shot at the ROH World Title; put the two together and you’ve got all the makings of a strong wrestling match. Since his loss at “Final Battle 2010”, Richards has stated his main purpose is to become a better wrestler, to train in every possible fashion he can, and prepare for his next title shot. And he has guaranteed that if he doesn’t win the belt, he will never challenge for it again. Colt, since putting the Steen/Generico/Corino situation in his rear-view mirror, has requested ROH officials provide him with competition for the sake of competition. He wants to showcase the art of wrestling, the thing he loves most, and who better to do that with then a man many feel is the best wrestler in the world. Richards would argue that point, but regardless, on Saturday night, Colt & Richards will get in the ring and do what they do best in front of Cabana’s hometown crowd.
Special Challenge Match
Michael Elgin with Truth Martini vs. El Generico
El Generico is #2 on the HoT hitlist; Christopher Daniels drew the number one slot in Dayton on Friday night. Roderick Strong has put Michael Elgin on the warpath to remove any potential challengers for his ROH World Title and the powerhouse of the HoT is more than happy to oblige. He is a man who enjoys pain and punishment, but El Generico is a man who has proven he can take a lot of it, fight back, and conquer. There isn’t much Generico didn’t experience in 2010 over the course of his war with Kevin Steen, and it instilled a whole new level of tolerance in the Generic Luchador. It’s been intimated by ROH officials that Generico is likely to challenge for the World Title following the April 1st Daniels vs. Strong/Homicide/Edwards title match, and a victory here will send a message that nothing will stop him from getting that rematch.
Women of Honor
Sara Del Rey vs. MsChif
“The Queen of Wrestling” is actually nervous, a feeling quite alien to one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world today. She is nervous when MsChif’s name is mentioned, and even more nervous about the prospect of facing her this weekend. This is a MsChif that has put Daizee Haze on the shelf in recent months, has stated she is here to dominate, and has shown a side of herself that is quite unfamiliar to Del Rey. MsChif seems to want to hurt, to eliminate, en route to proving herself the best. They have battled in the past before, but this time, Del Rey is going in with a different mindset. Will that factor into the outcome of the match? Will the Queen end up with a face full of green mist? Or will Del Rey be the one to dominate?
Four Corner Survival
Steve Corino vs. Kyle O’ Reilly vs. Grizzly Redwood vs. “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett with Brutal Bob
Steve Corino is on a mission, a mission to rehab his name, his identity, and his career. He has taken the blame for Kevin Steen’s collapse on his own shoulders, and is looking to make sure no one else suffers that same downward spiral. He has made it his mission to help the next generation fulfill their potential, and avoid the pitfalls that have littered his own career. Corino will stare at three of those young athletes in Saturday night: two of them respectful young men who are giving Steve the benefit of the doubt, but keeping eyes in the back of their heads, and one man who doesn’t give a damn about anything but himself. Mike Bennett thinks he is owed the world, while Kyle & Grizzly are willing to fight for it. How will this play out as all three men look to fight their ways to the top, and how will Corino’s new mindset influence the bout?
For those in the Chicago area tickets will be available to purchase at the door on the night of the show. If you can’t be there live, then make sure you order it here on GoFightLive.TV: http://www.gofightlive.tv/
