WWE reportedly has a contingency plan for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia.
On the latest episode of the Self Made Sessions podcast, Self Made Pro reported that WWE has plans for Oba Femi to take on Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 43 if The Rock can’t compete at the event. However, he noted that there are a lot of moving pieces surrounding the event and nothing has been confirmed.
“So I talked to someone in WWE, right? There’s a lot of moving pieces right now and they’re still unclear, at least as far as I’m aware, as far as the people I spoke to are aware, I should say. Right now, if Dwayne’s not doing Mania, then they’re looking to do Oba Femi and Roman at Mania,” he said. [H/T SEScoops]
A match between Roman Reigns and The Rock at WrestleMania has been discussed for several years and nearly took place at WrestleMania 40. Reports earlier this year indicated that WWE and Saudi Officials were looking to rope the People’s Champion in for WrestleMania 43 by offering him “the largest offer ever made for someone to do a pro wrestling show.” While he didn’t confirm anything, The Rock revealed negotiations were ongoing.
Oba Femi called out Roman Reigns after WWE WrestleMania 42
During his appearance on the WWE WrestleMania 42 post-show after his win against Brock Lesnar, Oba Femi spoke about what’s next for him. Reacting to OTC chants from the crowd, he hinted at a collision between them by the end of the year.
“I think tomorrow is a celebration. I think in the coming weeks, it’s the establishment of a true main event player,” Oba said. “By the end of the year, the OTC can get some.”
Roman Reigns responded to Oba Femi later that night, saying he’d watch the Ruler closely through the summer and see how he does before they collide in the ring.
Roman Reigns is fresh off a successful World Heavyweight Championship defense against Jacob Fatu at Clash in Italy, while Oba Femi suffered a defeat at the hands of Brock Lesnar. It will be interesting to see if things lead to them facing each other at WWE WrestleMania 43, or if The Rock will return for the highly anticipated dream match with his cousin.
